Maidstone is right on the fringes.  promised my boy sledging in the morning!  it is mounting up on the grass -hoping the system will nudge southwards.  It is clearly cold enough.  On another note it has been a very good demonstration of how much heat the turf/soil holds.  Ironic considering how much snow is on the rooves of houses in Maidstone!!

V Light but steady snow in Hailsham.

Starting to lay on the grass a bit.

Did anyone see the American television series ‘The Dome’?

Think that may have happened over us!  (Farnham)

Yes I saw this and wondered why it wasn’t roasting hot under that glass dome!

Out of interest what is causing that snow shield around west Sussex?

Just looking to learn more about the weather.

It seems interesting how the precipitation is just moving around us lol.

more times than not this happens, it did in the last spell 3 weeks ago, and has done many times in last 20 years of me radar/model watching on the internet.

It's normally mid Sussex with Haywards Heath being the centre, I wonder if it's to do with the topography of the land with the south downs etc.

That's interesting.

It may be the topography.

Because we did quiet well in 2008,2009,2010, 2013.

It’s very weird here. Air temperature is -1, dew point is -4, yet the pavements are wet.

Saw someone on another forum mention that the ground temperature in Reading was 7C earlier this afternoon, recent mild weather has warmed the ground up and it hasn’t had chance to cool down to 0C yet, given the sudden drop in temp.

i thought the same here.  i dont understand why the pavements are finding it hard to keep the snow cover when everything else is covered, only thing i can think is it retains the heat from the past few days more than everything else.

Steady light snow in Bushey, Herts for most of day - not amounted to anything significant. Last couple of hours seems to have intensified somewhat with a covering - although roads still clear. Is this likely to continue? How much could we end up with?

I was thinking that would have an impact, Nick. However, it’s been around zero for 12 hours, so with the low DPs, thought it would settle
