Yep looks textbook ENE streamer, same orientation as Feb 09. Not to say out time will be the same but there's certainly a possibility of that.

In ashford im lookin out to the road facing north and heavy heavy horizontal particles are just flying right to left. Ehereever they stop therell be a lot. But its not touching the ground here because its just goih sideways lol

Can't help wondering where these "showers" are going to come from. Looking from Birmingham northwards the North Sea is packed with showers and has been for hours on the radar returns.

But off the coast of EA/SE there is nothing there at all? We have around 2cms on everything other than roads or paths, but those are drying nicely now so IF anything else appears later today it should stick.

Hi, newcomer here (Severe Weather UK on Twitter) - here's my forecast from yesterday for max snow totals between this AM and Sunday PM (0-200m average) - two convergence zones, one around Lincs the other around the Thames estuary (as shown on latest Fax chart) could give showery 10cm+ locally, though something closer to 5cm is more likely even in the heavy zones (hence 40% chance) - some models such as HIRLAM are also picking up on a second organised area of snow affecting southern parts of our region Sunday PM, although only a minority show this. N.B Don't take my map too literally!

         

(Light: 0-3cm) (Moderate: 4-9cm) (Heavy: 10-19cm)

The cells will literally form on the coast of Essex and Kent like they did last time round, you won't have much from the North Sea they will be forming straight literally on our doorstep. They will then continue to develop one after another after another after another hopefully leading  to some good snow Falls

Streamers develop 100-150 miles off of the coast, not out at sea.

When the colder air moves over later today and winds turn more ENE then shower/streamer activity will kick in. No point looking for showers yet, we're hours away.

Timing wise I suspect kickoff for the sten streamer to be about 2 or 3 roughly and then to move west southwest from there into South London Surrey and then into Hampshire from there. Places that do get training showers will probably see a decent amount of snowfall.

I wouldn’t worry about a dry slot this afternoon. It looks as though more moisture will be injected into the atmosphere later associated with the wave feature. In a few hours time, I think the radar will start coming to life once again.

Yes fingers crossed. This Thames streamer was due to start kicking off after 12pm but the PPN blob still looks way out to our north over Ipswich. The sausage warning area remains in the dry bit, hopefully something will start to show up on the radar soon moving towards the London area.

My understanding is that a wave front is going to move up/across the south this evening and tonight and showers to the north of that.

Had around 5 hours of persistent light snow so far, laid on everything but concrete so far and still going. Hoping for more later.

Currently light snow, very blowy and -1c with a -3c dew point. About 2cm though hard to tell due to the wind.

The warning kicks in at 4pm for the region,so not sure where you get 12pm from?

Imo the met office will err on the side of caution anyway with a warning  like that,so perhaps more likely after 1700 to start causing issues.

Moderate/light snow for most of the morning leaving a slight dusting. Looking too far north for anything meaningful this time round but good luck to you guys on the estuary!
