Not really that fun if snow is going to settle at night and melt by day. Wish this would have happened a month earlier

Good point; Meteociel shows DP at -2C here, so that should be cold enough!

-5.6c dew point here, reading reports of 4cms in north norfolk snow melting - I can understand a slight dusting melting so it has to be strength of the sun.

Hello to all North of the River! :)

Been snowing on and off since around 9.00a.m. here in Central London!

Light powdery snow, alternating between light and moderate falls. Snowflakes small and hardly settling, though nice to see all the same.:D:yahoo:

Temp around 2c and windchill is bitter at min -10c! :cold::cold::cold:

From 1700 hours tonight onwards is the time for us in Se Essex and east London , winds veer more NEly and lose some of the easterly component, dragging more moisture and increasing convections, hence why the steamers on models are at a Ne/Sw trajectory. Only just begun

Missing the point - if the snow has settled to a large enough depth to reflect the solar input then sub zero dp’s should mean minimal melt

the trick here is to get the depth in one go

And  yes, I also wish this had happened a month earlier !

Underneath quite a decent sized shower on the radar but it’s not really delivering anything substantial or heavy enough to settle. Nice to look at but I’m beginning to wonder if we’re going to struggle to see anything of note until much later now

Hi Blue, but someone just said earlier that he had 4cm of snow earlier and it has all melted?

Be interested to know if there were any other factors involved there - actually on the coast ?? I note Norwich weather centre reporting a dp of -1c recently

a flat 4cm or small drifts to 4 cms ??

We had a depth of nearly 5cm earlier and we're back down to 2-3cm with 4cm in places against the walls where it drifted slightly.. I think you're right but we still need to wait for evening til that comes into effect a bit better

It makes sense why the Meto have put warnings in for later - and the charts agree, not much in the way of settling snow until later. Nothing wrong with that of course.... just need to hope and pray you catch a 'streamer' or organised trough

At least it's cold though, right?

Wasn't expecting anywhere near as many showers as we've had this morning.  Hopefully that bodes well for later on :)

The sunshine and blue sky between showers. The temperature here is 3c at the moment but we are at sea level.
