I think the issue will be the current layer freezing and then supporting whatever falls on top.  Then it'll be really tricky conditions.  At the moment, it's so powdery that it's not really hard to drive on at all...tomorrow could be a different story.

Euro 4 is party time this evening indications of ANOTHER streamer then a more organised band of snow for the entire region

I'd think that the MO would have to issue an amber for our area Sno

Very pleased after a disappointing night to see snow falling

Predicted amounts not impressive enough for an amber but could change I guess

fair point, but given the intensity, especially in SE Essex and the fact it coincides with commuter travel timings, then they might just err on the side of caution . . . as you say, it could change

Has been really coming down on and off here in Suffolk this morning.  Can't really make an accurate estimate but I'd say at least a couple of inches of fresh shown and still coming down.  Not a huge amount more to come though, by the looks of it...until later this evening anyway.

Makes you realise how close we were to a real thumping when a shower hits. Fast accumulations. Fine margins!

Well definitely a westward push of the shower line now. Looks oncourse for south London.

Do we expect the northern part of the shower train to intensify? At this rate, north London looks like it might not get much.

Not according to the charts, South London could be in for a bit of fun though! I think North of the Thames will miss out.

Certainly a direct East moisture field coming off the Netherlands coast on Sat24, if a disturbance runs through it, it could certainly liven it up.

Those showers currently over Essex should hit north London, but there isn't much behind that on the radar at the moment. The winds have clearly veered to more of an easterly, so hopefully more convection will build over the rest of the day and tonight.

The wind has definitely swung round to an easterly so expect showers to start penetrating further inland

What are your thoughts on our chances for the rest of the day mate? Doesn't seem to be much in the way of showers forming.

No more than an incomplete dusting at Watford with no real fresh snow overnight - the small bits we have are in the process of sublimating or melting in the sun.

Now have a temp of zero, slighty more humid today at 68% - steadily decreasing pressure - see NW have promised us some for this afternoon and see the wind is changing to a more easterly quadrant, so we may benefit from a Thames streamer but don't really want the temp to rise much higher, otherwise we will get wet stuff instead of powder,

Was thinking back and a number of times circa 20 years ago we get maxes of -5C around here, though the beast from the east has been modified by comparatively warmer temps, though it has come later in the season this time.

Yet I'm only 15 miles from you at most!  Heavy snow shower at present.
