Great to not hear the drip drip drip

Not so great to see zero convection looking east from the Estuary

And where is the wind ?? Clouds are not moving up there

Eerie feel not a sound out there, where has the beast gone or is it purring asleep atm

I do feel this easterly has been so hyped.

Clear skies, no wind. perhaps looks as if some one has burst a bean bag in my garden.

Does anyone actually remember a proper easterly.

This was hyped as once in 100 yr event. Laughable.

I hope someone somewhere gets a snowdrift.

Winds are still NE, first lot of the new wave heading in now with it also picking up underneath. Will be hard to escape one soon.

i don't think it's barely started though? uppers of -17 will be crossing the country in the next 48 hours, I think that's about a once in 20+ year event? Some places will get lots of snow; others less so. but to write it off on the first day seems odd to say the least

Never heard 1 in a 100, I think I heard 1 in 10 or 20 never a 100.

Possibility is there if a streamer sets up that somewhere gets pasted and this weekend is trending in our favour right now lets hope it continues.

For mid winter it would be a 1 in 20 or 30. This late in winter, well 1 in a 100 isn't unreasonable.

A few weeks earlier and we would have been looking at 2m temps a good 2 or 3 degrees lower!

It was local radio who Ramped it up as 100 year event.  I do have hope. But  cannot see a countrywide disruption as it stands.

I cannot remember a good snowfall since we started measuring snow in centimeters. Feet and inches. Those were the days. LOL  Wishing us all to have a heavy duty snowfall.

I see that winds are due to shift back to more of a ENE in the next few hours so showers will starting pushing a bit further in land. We shall wait and see I suppose!

Only in the east could the predicted totals of 10-20cm morph into 0.1 - 0.2cm in such a short space of time :D

Heavy snow again at the most easterly point in Suffolk! We’ve had thunder snow earlier...now a few centimetres laying...with more coming right now! Fun night ahead!

Today since the Easterly graced our shores was never from memory in forecast relation meant to be a white out, Only Snow showers, The events are meant to start from early hours tomorrow and so on. Temps are on an even more decline from now and continuing through this week. As posted before, Confident of much intense and prolonged snow early hours and so on for most within this thread. No chance of melt..not at - 7c and below. Wind chill will be bitter.

Plus the amber warning starts from 2am. The wind is currently coming in from the NE, with forecasts indicating it will start swinging to a more ENE direction from about 3am, which will improve chances of a streamer: http://www.xcweather.co.uk/GB/forecast
As it stands from the latest radars, there is a good conveyor belt of ppn coming off the North Dutch coast which will be propelling our convection as we enter the early hours.

Still on track as far as the Met Office warnings go, so t is another case of radar watching.

How does one measure snow that's only 1 grain deep but has gaps between grains- does it get smoothed out or is it the height of the grain? This is the localised dilemma the beast has caused.
