Thinking the ultra cold temperatures in the West of our region being aided by secondary continentalisation.

The flow drifting over the snowfields further east. Plus it's a slack flow.

Surely -15 achievable?

1cm on the previously snowless car from that one shower.

Another 15-20 of those overnight, please..

Farnborough, just down the road from here, is now reporting -8c ?

A long way back to get above 0C tomorrow given the wind will shift to an even drier source mid morning and cooling upper temps again. ECM keeps many below -2C tomorrow which is certainly possible for some.

Might need to get to the end of the pier to see it. Not sure it's got Southend in its sights..

Bloody better not miss!

Hoping this is the first shower that ushers in a subtle shift to the ENE rather than NE

Got nearly 5 inches in canterbury. Most has fallen in last 90 mins. Been a whiteout. Beautiful!

Yep seem to be in the sweet spot for once, building up nicely , shows the difference that a nice layer of previous snow/ ice can make to the accumulation. Earlier in the year we had almost the same amount but it just melted. -2C and still snowing, if it stops snowing it will freeze if not it keeps building up, win win if you like snow , less so if you don't.

Really???? The radar would suggest otherwise

I absolutely guarantee you that as of 21:23 it is not snowing in Horley. A few scattered clouds and a big bright moon.

Edit: and neither was it at 20:40!

Very impressive! I’ve just seen Benson in south Oxfordshire is now down to -10c.

Does.. does this mean we are colder currently than the Arctic? I'm sure I read somewhere they had recorded consecutive temps of -8?

Benson is a notorious frost hollow, but that’s still impressive. Is now down to -6c here.

Been snowing steadily in Herne bay for an hour !! The Synoptics show the gateway to the east fully opening with the high pivoting over the UK simply stunning

That’s almost how I’m expecting it to play out. No major drops but steady on off snow through the night.

Wow

Exploded in 1 scan as well, would have liked to have seen that Updraught

Does seem to have more of a west drift to it now but will it all fizzle out as soon as it touches land again?

Same here in St Leonards-on-Sea at the moment. Nearby Herstmonceux is currently reporting a temperature of -5c and DP -7.6. The DP there dropped as low as -11c earlier this evening. Shiver me timbers.
