Me right now

A few showers/a thin stretch of streamer arrived in the Steyning area overnight and must have ended up in Worthing, where the snow-desperate might be waking to not-deep whiteness.

I think anyone, even the Met Office, who can nail the exact locations for an Amber warning should be predicting the lottery. When streamers are involved, they have to cover the entire risk area, which they did. Yes, some will have missed out, but that’s just the nature of those scenarios.

I think my point was about the extent of the Amber - many folks well, well inside that zone have seen little or no snow. Whereas two amateur, albeit highly knowledgable posters on a recreational regional weather thread, picked out the inaccuracy of it within about ten minutes.

Anyhoo... not disagreeing for the sake of it - just think that as they often do, MetO have covered all bases just in case. To be fair, you and I could’ve done that.

Herne bay to London via m2/a2 from 5:30 to 7am this morning. Herne bay not bad. Whitstable to just past sittingbourne terrible and heavy snow. Blue bell hill to Rochester bridge patchy. Gravesend onwards totally clear. Here in east London (Canary Wharf) blue skies and not one bit of snow.

well the boys school is closed so snow day I know this has not been great for many, this is much better for me on the edge of Sittingbourne than we got in 2010, hopefully more will get in on the act as the week moves along

agree above , its just when you look at things like the fax chart which was issued last night, you would say that is very snowy chart which should deliver. I guess we need luck and dream synoptics..?

maybe a piers corbyn forecast !!

Yes, fax charts look great. Maybe once the sun is up, the showers will kick off more widely? I’ll admit to being a bit underwhelmed too, thought more of us would have seen a covering by now.

My parents have sent me this photo from Christ’s Hospital near Horsham showing they have a decent covering, much better than here in Reigate?

Are we to expect anything in Central/SE London today? I hope this won't be another wild goose chase

a few flurries might get going later a bit like yesterday but substantial settling snow across the conurbation - not likely

Still snowing, not overly deep, but I'll take it, was really fearing none after expecting a lot. Thanet

The forecast says the wind will change to an Easterly as of now. Is that going to happen as it does not look like it?

A rather snowy Grove in Tunbridge Wells this morning. My daughters are so annoyed that their school is open! (Sorry about the undue prominence given to the dog poo bin, which is not the most aesthetically pleasing object - chosen because you can see the snow depth on the top!)

It's great to see some areas get a good snowfall overnight but for the majority of us this is turning into a major disappointment

For me

  • I thought they were supposed to be dream synoptics, I just can't see how they were
  • I thought it was supposed to be windy, it certainly isn't here
  • I thought it was supposed to be unusually cold, it isn't
  • I thought there were supposed to be widespread heavy showers merging into bands of snow - there hasn't been

So what went wrong or was it just over hyped?

This pretty much sums up my thoughts so far. Light snow here with a covering of about 1cm currently. The December snowfall was more significant here.

I had a feeling this would be the case for us, always seems to be.

Plenty of hot air from exasperated snow lovers lol. Hopefully loads of heavy snow showers today.

Yep, not too shabby is it? I'm happy with this lot, just proves it can still snow here
