What are you trying to look at?

I only have to look out of the window to make the observation!

Remember, the upper temps are now warming rapidly, as the surface temps are now getting near 0 it is quite possible for sleet to fall.

Ah WiB, didn't see you back on here!

Yeah radar showing decent intensity down the A3 thats for sure, that feature has put me into a dry slot (can't complain as I could walk the dog!) but now we are into near moderate snow again which should be here for the next hour or so I'd guess.

Looking at radarI'd suggest SW Surrey probably good for atleast another 2-3cms, could be more if the front really hangs on in this area.

Further east will need something else to crop up in the flow, but this is about the eastern extent.

Yep! we are entering our more traditional snow fall types  and issues......but boy it was good to experience 4 days of the continental type :)

mate, it's impossible, the wind is from east and quite strong

Steering winds are almost due north (700hPA) which is what counts :)

Anyone notice the glaring mistake from Turkishfella ? Surface winds have nothing to do with upper steering winds - please read up on Meterology

I suspect it was very fine powder snow grains, if its light enough it can look a little like rain, we had that here briefly around 2pm.

Temperatures aloft should still easily support snow even down to the coast, that will change though quite quickly this evening and we will probably see a transition back to 'wet snow'

Agreed. MetO/BBC/Meteo seem to have this one about right. West and north of you, I'm still hoping for an increase in intensity for at least a couple of hours but I don't think there'll be a big addition to the snow that is already on the ground.

I can tell you that when they add to -8, your chances of snow are well above 100%....

But this morning I am convinced there was either rain or sleet in the air!!

Sleet?

I'm about 800 metres from the sleet poster and I can confirm it is very fine snow - or snizzle if you wish to use made up terms.

Wind has got up here temp is -2.1c with DP of -6 and windchill of -10c and dry, so maybe the same convection we had this morning as places north of here reporting light snow.

I think the best hope for us further east is the system building out on it's eastern edge as it pushes N/NW. That does seem to be happening, but it's touch and go whether us further east will see much from this tonight.

@stevemurr - it's snizzle, not sleet - it's definitely precipitation though, that isn't rain. It's still falling but starting to lose it's intensity after gaining some momentum for 5 mins or so.
