Heavy snow but not big blobs here in Farnham, Surrey! ?

Bit further west than you and it is still light snow here. Hoping it gets a bit heavier and keeps going. Very windy with the lying snow being whipped up into drifts.

There are still eastward movements from this system and it's building on the eastern side too. Could this be more widespread than forecast?

Conditions worsening here in Portsmouth, starting to lay on the roads with a fierce wind, snow getting heavier.

Your not that far from me, I'm up the A3. I think your far enough west to cop the main snow band, I'm probably still only 50-50 though lighter snow that has formed on the eastern edge has helped.

However the main thing to note isthe big convective blow up just leaving  France. This is GOOD as it will helpto expand the snow area as it enters the channel.

The band itself is now moving a tiny bit west of north but energy is still expanding occasionally to the east which is keeping the snow line where it presently is. As Nick said its well worth watching for convection as well...

Came up from Exeter yesterday (DAMNIT!!) but surprised at how much snow is falling in Surrey between Woking and Guildford. Snowing quite heavily now and looking at this radar, surely we're still in the firing line?

Very much so I’d say.

Ice flow in the Thames at Leigh (Southend)

So yes, it certainly has been a beast here. 2010 this happened last. Before that 1987 I believe. So only the 3rd time in 30 years! Appreciate some haven’t felt the full effects, but here in Southend with 7” snow, 3ft drifts nearby, 5 days of snow falling, icicles, blizzards and several ice days etc it is going into the old memory bank as one of the best in my living memory.

Thats very impressive, it has to be very cold for this to happen.
Seen it loads in Holland but not here, as you say 87 for sure I was there, out from Thorpe Bay to the main channel not just Leigh Creek.

could it be to do with the dewpoint ?

Dew point here is about -6 with the temp being -2

There was a guide on here where you add the dew point and air temperatures together and get a probability of snow.....would appreciate if someone could re post it!

Most of the models had the swing north happening sometime between 1500 and 1600, though given the eastward extent of the precip compared to some of the models it would probably need to make the turn slightly earlier if the negligible snow depths are to verify. Next hour should tell us a lot!
