Snow is now advancing northeast into the English Channel from the Cherbourg Peninsular.

I imagine it won’t be too long before it reaches the south coast, albeit rather light at this stage.

That Euro4 is out of date - 18z just trickling out..

Yes it is and seems to not have much PPN on for us even on Friday, but its showing the cold air hanging on over the Uk, this is after all the form horse and I don't care what people say its not that easy to just shift all this cold air with just one nudge like many of the models have been showing.

Think I'm even in it, however anything coming here is so light, it's not reaching the ground.

Yes, we just have flurries of snow flying past horizontally in Reigate!

After nothing of note from this event so far, this evening has marked a massive turnaround for the better ?

We’ve has persistent snow for most of the evening which is now rather heavy. A nice cover is now developing!

Look forward to getting up in the morning to check the snow accumulated!

Yep frontal system already knocking on the door of the channel, note this is even a little ahead of the HIRLAM which is the fastest of all the models with taking the front northwards. Anyway time for me to head to bed, hopefully I will wake up at the crack of dawn to see some good frontal progress.

Well done to those who got some good action tonight by the way!

And here! Snowing since 4ish yet I know that if this was wetter, straight falling snow we'd be knee deep but the accumulation doesn't match the houra of snow because it as being blown everywhere being so powdery and dry!

I’m guessing we have a couple of inches now, but it’s hard to tell.

Not bad going considering there was nothing on the ground at 7pm.

How’s it looking in Windsor?

If anything, the HIRLAM model is still too far West compared to where it is on the radars..

This is.. exciting!

yeah just having a look through radar and looks about 30 miles north East of where it is modelled of HIRLAM at this time. so all good for south East. if we take it Hirlam is now correct but shift  everything slightly 20miles east it looks very  good for whole south of country. would expect slightly increased intensity also for essex/Suffolk as now the eastern end of band will be further out in north sea and with the winds being very high that will increase convection.

Is it me or are those the wind directions at the moment? Because that is how the animation plays out, UK ENE winds and France SW winds, almost a split right along the channel ?

Wind howling round the house! Temp -5c, dew point -9c

Used to tracking French blobs on the radar but it’s usually summer and in the 20’s, not sub-zero and winter!

The bands of precipitation are moving approx north east wards, but the winds will generally be east or south easterlies, at least in northern france. Looking at the sky an hour ago in West Sussex, the highish clouds were moving approx in an easterly direction, against an easterly wind,  indicating the movement of approaching weather systems from an approx westerly direction.

hi stubbys the French band gives impression of winds going NE but is illusion. the low is moving up in a north easterly direction from bay Biscay, the band of snow on its front is actually being blown in WNW direction as below, but on radar we see the north east edge of low coming up towards us each frame which gives the ilustion of showers going in north easterly direction. ETA for band to hit south coast 3:30am heavy stuff to arrive 7am ish.

That doesn't make sense unless there's a low in the channel right now.
