I agree  but my only concern is are we not under the real stuff already -10 or less uppers etc and it doesn't seem to be firing up the really heavy showers and even thunder snow  I thought we might see..?

I have no idea what I'm talking about if I'm honest but the fact they aren't dying out around London and making to to the channel is something to be positive about for later when it's colder so bigger difference between sea and air (maybe?!?).

It's been like it since early morning - not the best day to choose to be beset by gremlins. Or maybe they've been hacked by Meteogroup!

The latest Met Office outlook is very disappointing for our patch. It appears confidence is growing for milder conditions in the south this weekend.

If I see no snow on the ground between now and Friday, and then a slush fest, it will be one of the biggest let downs of the season.

Hopefully the low will correct south over time, but I have a feeling confidence of the track is increasing.

Good luck to those in Sussex and Kent tonight, for the rest of us it's a case of wait and see.

My rather unscientific but surprisingly effective loft hatch observations suggest to me that the flow is shifting slightly. Just a touch more NEly in it. Anyone verify? No access to charts.

You're right - I can confirm in the last hour at Gatwick there was a slight shift from ENE (70 degrees) at 12:20pm to NE (50 degrees) at 1:20pm. :D

Temperature currently just above freezing, not made it to 1c yet today. Just walked along the beach, unsurprisingly no-one else to be seen, extremely cold with ENE wind around 25mph, still the odd flake in the air. Either some snow left from earlier or frozen sea spray on the edge of the beach.

Good luck to those desperate for some snow, I'm just happy to take what come my way here on the south-east coast of Kent.

The regional lunchtime forecast from the BBC has streamers going through worthing late this evening into tomorrow morning.

That it what I pay the license fee to see!!!

Cheers.

I genuinely just gave myself a backslap! :D

On an IMBY note within an IMBY thread, that's a positive. Further adjustments north east and that'll explain the MetO's current emphasis on Kent and Sussex - irritating that they generalise Sussex, as I would expect the emphasis and 'risk' to be greater in East Sussex.

Convection seems to be easing off in the estuary and eastern parts of the region at the moment. For now at least.

Cumulus Mediocris clouds really starting to tower up now, if not heading for the Congestus stage just yet around the Thames Estuary. A good sign for later....
