The latest MetO text update is a bit of coffin/nail scenario. This change has caught the experts out as well!

Just read it, dam, I thought they might have had this right but by the change in tone they expect but not certain of the low to go further north.

im just going to say there is still 4 days to go so anything can happen

Heavy snow followed by heavy rain. Said before I would have preferred light snow with no risk. Need to move back to the Cotswolds.

If Plymouth can get some snow out of it then anyone can!

Early warning out for you guys on Thursday

Between 12:00 Thu 1st and 23:55 Thu 1st

There is potential for a spell of heavy snow, accompanied by strong winds, to move slowly north through Thursday afternoon and night. There is a small chance that long delays and cancellations on bus, rail and air travel could occur. There is a slight chance that roads may become blocked by deep snow, with stranded vehicles and passengers. There is a small chance that long interruptions to power supplies and other services such as telephones, may occur.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A weather system is expected to move slowly north through Thursday into Friday and has potential to produce widespread snow, accompanied by strong to gale force winds. As less cold air follows from the south, there is a small chance of snow turning to freezing rain bringing an additional ice risk. There is still uncertainty in how this system will develop, but there is a small chance of the combined effects of snow, strong winds and ice leading to severe impacts.

We don't usually see warnings quite so far ahead from the MetO. I think their statement is very wisely written, as is the fact they issued the warning. It gives people a heads up. I'm thinking that closer to the time, this will be revised.

How the hell can they put those warnings out and then just cancel them...?! Even Ian this morning has been talking about the potential.. what’s going on?!

I was referring to my own area. I'm not sure why they insist on warning a 150 mile stretch of open water?

A risk of icy stretches for trawlers?

I'm just happy we have the chance of snow so late in the season. It's going to be so cold over the next few days, I don't think we would have experiened anything like this for a very long time.

Enjoy it folks, and lets hope for some nice snowy surprises along the way.

Wednesdays warning for snow cancelled now by metO aswell. Total joke 3 sunny days then rain...what an absolute washout. I should never have let myself get so mentally attached that we were going to have a freeze and the beast would be worse for 8 years. and might actually see some decent snow in southampton.  I gotta stop caring about the weather so much.....

These warnings might get moved like OCD. Refined info is coming in all the time I suppose.

From previous experiences it’s quite possible they’ll be hanged again yet.
