South West and Central Southern England Regional Weather Discussion 22/02/2018 Onwards

Personally re more snow today. The latest radar image shows a developing band of snow over the North of our area which might suggest that this is what the Met were alluding to for us later so on that basis to me it means we might not be seeing much today. There seems little mechanism at the moment to the South to force much snow up, certainly not currently- might change later. I think Gloucestershire and South Wales might see some in the coming hours

Got a weird mix here now of light drizzly rain with the odd normal snow flake mixed in. No sleet though?

With the flow being off the continent I believe anything below the 0c line should fall as snow today.

I think that would be defined as sleet, rain and snow falling together.

Not supposed to start until around mid afternoon so if that's coming up from the south I doubt it would be in range of the rainfall radar coverage area yet.

True, I always took it to mean wet partially melted snow flakes.

All the forecasts are showing it building into the afternoon. Ill go with bbc and met on this one they must know something we dont

Well I don,t know what things are like up on Dartmoor or Exmoor but down here in lowland Dorset a few miles north of Weymouth I would say its only the worst since 2010. Certainly no 1978 thats,s for sure. Pretty much a bog standard heavy snowfall with the added delight of a 1cm crust of frozen rain .The media are in Hyperdrive as usual.God only knows what they,d do if another 1978 actually occured. Presumably explode with hyperbole.. Good luck to all those of you who,ve had a real pasting. Take care.

There's quite a lot of moisture behind Emma and encroaching on the low from the West.

No rain here at all now, just snow flakes falling intermittently. Hope we can get some snow today..... I think? Can’t be anymore crazy on the roads than now? Dorset way had 150 cars abandoned on it  last night.

Holy moly,

you know those pics I sent , that was only from

the back. Weird thing is I was out until 8 having fun with my son sledging and also fixing bent wiper on my car due to ice. When we got back we cleared the snow off the front door ledge but guess what 

it must have chucked it down for ages afterwards because look here now I just opened front door !!!! The back snow I think blew away but deeper falls perhaps level as front more shelter !!!!

Another window. 

[Thundery wintry showers]

There was a major ice storm in Exeter overnight (freezing rain mixed with ice pellets) so there is an inch thick layer of solid ice on top of the lying snow and it's literally like an ice rink in places.
