Long time lurker here and great to see so many reports of decent snowfall in our region! It's been snowing pretty much all day in Gloucester but that really fine stuff but still great for the kids who have been loving their snow day off school. Thinking I may be too far East for a proper dumping but fingers crossed! Enjoy!!

Cawh I really do seem to forget how deep snowfall really is lol, just went out to measure and was around 8cm which is still a respectable amount given further snow tonight and tomorrow.

Doing a bit of reading, it seems that freezing rain can occur when temps between 1km and 2km (roughly 850hPa then?!) are between 0 and 4C. Currently, 850hPa temps on the South coast are between -2 and 0.

That sucks so badly.

However , you are like, next to a massive body of warmer water. So.. The snow as it is is like ultra rare! :)  Make the most of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!iiiiiiiiiiiiiii

The heavier stuff on my doorstep now, hopefully won’t be long, I’ve got the door open for it ?

However it pans out over the next 12 hours or so, what's made today memorable, is not only the mere fact that it snowed all day in Dorset, but the even rarer event of having fine, powder snow, giving a completely different type of evolving cover than you get with the traditional wet, big flake 'British snow'. The shows not over yet though.

I don't believe rain is falling. It's still snowing here, and i'd be the first to see the rain.

Good to see another in my neck of the woods. Powder snow all day here too. I think that's going to change overnight.

Bit of a lull here at the moment. Hopeful that we'll get a top up later.

Sledging done ✅

We haven’t really copped for any of the heavier stuff here yet but no complaints from me even if this ends up being it, a very very decent snowfall from the steady intensity stuff we’ve had so far.

Eased off at the moment and was getting a bit less powdery.

Hopefully the pesky rain stays a few miles off shore.

Pretty decent amounts for us. Meto still saying heavy snow for us until early hours. What do you think?

Where can I view real time upper air temps?

I view them over-layed on Netweather's premium radar.

Mapantz, are you in the purbeck hills or somewhere lower down like Wareham / Stoborough?

The falling snow as shown in Tiverton on the news, is very different stuff to what's falling in Yatton.

Presuming we would change to wet snow before freezing rain anyway? And I’m full on powder blizzard at the moment

Holy batman Pogo stick, just got back from the horses on the moors and in all my 26 years I have never experienced weather like it! Think I have driven and walked through my first blizzard! Couldn't muck out the horses as the wind was so strong it took it all out the wheel barrow. Couldn't see more than 2 meters in front. Over 1ft snow drifts, absolutely crazy! My car is blooming amazing and on one snow drift I drove through I felt the side of the car tip up. Not going to forget that in a while!

Yes going well here in the Solent isn't it!! The Met Office this morning had us down to start snowing at 7pm - humongous mistake!!! ARGEPE and HIRLAM models crushed them again!!!
