Freezing drizzle now. Temp -1.5c dew -3c

i would like to thank everyone for your amazing contributions over the past few days, what away to see out winter 2018

beast from the east we thank you and hope to see you again, hopefully next winter:hi:

Thank you SSW for sending us beast from east.

Im

so grateful for this snowfest it’s been amazinh

my most favourite out of all of it is seeing my son’s face and enjoyment and constant pelting me with snowballs but him and other children being old enough to remeber his special event . We just don’t know how many years we will have to wait for snow again on this level .

could be next year 3-4-5 or more years such is uk weather.

but now he can recollect reminisce with me when we look back on it and photos footage sledging and everything. Up early to take him again too before it’s too wet snow on ground. It started losing its power nature in places today due to the ice rain .

so maybe tomorrow last day of powder sledging .

Thanks everyone for a great forum and especially to the regulars for putting up with us lurkers.

I missed the worst (best!) of the blizzard here in Wembury, SW Devon, but I had a great first course of powder snow on Wednesday and a little dessert course of freezing rain last night.  Nothing to cause a problem, but enough to say I’ve seen freezing rain!

Here are a few pictures to give a view of the condition across our region.

Wembury, 85m ASL and 1 mile inland.

3 day and 7 day air temp profile.

That last bird is probably not a thrush but a Fieldfare. We have had a few in our garden the last couple of days

Echoing the thoughts of others, it’s been great on here the last few days. We’re all a bit mad really, but the tech we have now allows an easy understanding ‘community’ to find (personally I don’t do Facebook etc, but not knocking those who do).

Still snowing here, prob 7-8 inches, hate the thaw but can’t complain really! I need to go to work asap too, landscape gardener! But if weather stops me working might as well be worth it...

Cheers all.

There is some precip coming across channel from Brest peninsula. Meteoradar forecast shows it coming ashore Dorset/SE Devon and to track through Devon, Dorset out across Bristol channel/Atlantic.

This is forecast to be rain, however a friend at the Met Office has told me that it is uncertain as to how quickly the risk of snow reduces between tonight and tomorrow. The wind is still ENE meaning that its track is over land for much of the SW. Plus, we have a very cold, stable boundary layer and lying snow. This will mean the mild air will have a fight on its hands over the next 12 hours or so. It will win, but how quickly is what we're interested in! I suspect rain is more likely for many of us, but everyone should keep an eye on the lamp posts as precipitation passes over on the radar, just in case!

Any chance of delaying that for a year? I've got a house to build this year, the plan is then to sell asap and move up onto the Mendip Plateau, another 80-90 meters higher than here will make for humdinger winters. I promise, anyone who makes it up in a snowstorm will be welcome to stay.

The shower moving over me now is definitely snow, so if that big clump over the channel makes it here I am hopeful of maybe one last dumping before we are done?

At this point I’d say no to the blob!

Thats associated with some less cold air and more likely that would raise dew points ahead of it for the south coast.

These are already creeping up, so best outcome if I was on the south coast and had snow in my back garden , say no to the blob!

Just shows for our region the only way to get snow all round is a set up from the east and seemingly the best route is via a SSW. Think next year I'll be focusing on the strat!
