Ah I thought it was issued at 20:41 ?

No, it was on Radio 4 at 5.20 am, before it started snowing here at at 7 am, and repeated throughout the morning on R4 and Radio Wales (probably on Radio Fymru too but I didn't check)

After a brief lull in the snow it seems to have picked up again with larger snowflakes.

Yeah, it's beefed up again here. I haven't seen the 'rain' element of this myself yet. Has still been continuous snow, albeit lighter.

UK Warnings

Thursday 1 March Published at 20:37

Weather Warning

Issued by the Met Office

RED WARNING OF WIND & SNOW for South West England, and Wales

Between 15:00 Thu 1st and 02:00 Fri 2nd

A spell of heavy snow and blizzard conditions is expected. The snow will be accompanied by very strong easterly winds leading to severe drifting. Some places could also see significant ice build up due to freezing rain from later on Thursday evening, most likely in the south of the area. Long delays and cancellations of public transport seem highly likely. Some roads are likely to become blocked by deep snow, stranding vehicles and passengers. Long interruptions to power supplies and other utilities are very likely to occur, along with damage to trees and other structures due to heavy snow or ice.

Except that was issued much earlier than 20:37.  At 0520 they were saying Red Warning started at 1600, but by 1100, they'd brought it forward to 1500.

Think about it: not much point issung a "warning" at 20:37 that the weather will be bad 5 hours earlier.....

We're having a period of heavy hail. Very fine but it's making the roads lethal.

Great news!! We're doing good in Portsmouth too, 8cm on level surfaces, still snowing and luckily no freezing rain yet. I'd have settled for that at the start of February!! :)

Big large lump of precipitation has missed us by about 15 miles to the west just now... but I'm not worried anymore. Cant be greedy. We will have a winter wonderland here tomorrow guaranteed. Awesome for 1st March. Imagine if this setup had arrived in January? Maybe next time. :-)

Glad you are cashing in also. :-)

Just been out for a smoke. All of the snow is rock hard! I don't know how much more freezing rain is supposed to fall? But, if it carries on and it's still like it by morning, it'll be chaos!

Freezing rain here, north shore, Isle of Wight. Snow gradually disappearing but the wind is as strong as earlier....... I suspect that this represents the end of the Beast

Left work early and popped to the pub, about ten cm of lying snow at that point on all roads, even the gritted ones.  While walking to the pub watched a cyclist go past in lycra shorts!  People that were with small ones on sledges going down the road stopped taking photos of their kids and started taking photos of the cyclist.

The wind is howling and the roof is creaking.  Spooky.  Trying to go to sleep but too noisy!

Temperature creeping up to -2 now it was -2.4 an hour ago .
