If freezing rain does occur, people won't know what's hit them!

I have only seen freezing rain once nearly thirty years ago and it is terrifying!

What about the even heavier stuff in chanel...

At the moment I think that will go towards North Devon, SW Somerset & into SE Wales, hence the Meto red warning.

Plus so far the PPN has been struggling to keep it's intensity once it moves inland from the South Coast.

I still don’t understand how this doesn’t warrant a red warning, by the looks of things they extended the amber

I am a little confused... the red zone is currently looking quite average in terms of intensity to rest of region..?

Not bad going at all here - my garden has 2 feet drifts along the sides and a solid 5-6 inches on the flat bits. Impressed.

Ian F did say on lunchtime news latest radar and models showed area affected could be larger than red zone encompasses...

If i'm brutally honest, karlos, I have no idea! I've never really understood the full mechanisms for it, thus making it difficult to ever judge or forecast from charts. I have only experienced it, once, when I was in France on a snow boarding holiday. Me and a mate went in to Geneva for a night out (we were just a small drive across the border to Switzerland) then couldn't get back to the car literally being glued to where it was parked. We had to sleep in the car - not an experience I recommend lol

Really coming down quite hard now. It's so fine that it actually looks like rain when lampost watching.

Meteoradar shows a small gap in the snowfall here at the moment, which would account for the current lull. Hopefully temporary & intensity will increase again soon.

I hope ours stays as snow too,but looking at the radar precipitation type we are precariously on the edge of the green colour!

Good snowfall earlier in Guernsey but  turned to rain around 2.45pm. Been raining heavily since and the snow slowly melting away.

Sledging done ✅

We haven’t really copped for any of the heavier stuff here yet but no complaints from me even if this ends up being it, a very very decent snowfall from the steady intensity stuff we’ve had so far.

Eased off at the moment and was getting a bit less powdery.

Hopefully the pesky rain stays a few miles off shore.

Holy batman Pogo stick, just got back from the horses on the moors and in all my 26 years I have never experienced weather like it! Think I have driven and walked through my first blizzard! Couldn't muck out the horses as the wind was so strong it took it all out the wheel barrow. Couldn't see more than 2 meters in front. Over 1ft snow drifts, absolutely crazy! My car is blooming amazing and on one snow drift I drove through I felt the side of the car tip up. Not going to forget that in a while!

I didn't think you would go. You were brave. Glad you are safe now. Rest, have tea and relax.

Doing a bit of reading, it seems that freezing rain can occur when temps between 1km and 2km (roughly 850hPa then?!) are between 0 and 4C. Currently, 850hPa temps on the South coast are between -2 and 0.

Just went outside.  Very small snowflakes/snowgrains but coming down so heavy that it is still accumulating.
