It's where the Auld Fella and I had our first kiss! (Under the Castle, not the station.)

Max temp today -3.4C.

I was looking at the traffic cams in Southampton and it looks like at least part of the city had a decent bit of snow last night. Yet when we went past Eastleigh earlier it didn’t look like they’d had much.

Could it end up being the coldest day in Southampton since 1987? I lived there in January 1987, when the temperature on the 12th didn't get above -5.

I'm too young to remember that winter, but have heard about it from my parents.  They appeared on the TV show Mr and Mrs and had to go all the way up to Carlisle to film it. It was largely snowless there but when they got back to Hampshire on the train it was a whiteout and more snow days followed after. Hoping for similar the next few days!

I wouldn't call it decent - you could still see grass and tarmac everywhere except where the snow had drifted. I think it is quite localised as well. We only had a couple of tiny flurries where I work near the SGH on Weds but when I came back over the river a couple of hours later there was a lot more laying snow.

Proper snowing now, although still small flakes.

What I am seeing on the radar is that what we are getting at the moment is a finger of snow ahead of the main band. The heavier stuff hasn't made landfall just yet and is also heading for you.

Although we have around 2cm - 3cm snow here, the wind has blown most surfaces bare so it looks like we have hardly a dusting. It's all piled up against kerbs and objects. Road and pavement are bone dry underneath. Every now and then a cloud of snow is whipped up and blown down the street.

Could do with some proper snowflakes rather than the grains currently falling.

I think that that is what makes the scene look so Baltic. And its bitingly cold.
