Eh?...... Thursday and Friday would absolutely bury a good chunk if the South if the 12z GFS somehow verified.... I put my post code into the NWextra forecast and totted up the snowfall for Friday and into Saturday and came up 52cm!!

Eh? But I can’t understand how?

quite often when we get only light blue shading over us -5s 850s  is more often than not marginal mostly sleet rain for our region .

So how on earth would you get 52cm of snow when green and yellows showing as per these screen grabs. ( unless you live on a mountain in Wales where indeed it looks like they could get buried. )

i just font see how? Open for correction though AJ.

The low on Thursday/friday reminds me of Feb 2009, wasn't that a easterly as well? We had 50cms and the army had to come rescue people stranded on the a386 and the local town halls gave emergency shelter. Was absolutely amazing and was the start of my snow/cold obsession. Remember riding my horse on the moors and the snow almost came up to her shoulders! And having a canter on the main road as the snow was so deep. My current horse is a lot smaller and is only just coming back into work after being poorly so we won't be able to venture out if the snow is very deep but I haven't ridden in snow for 8 years now, maybe just a toddle down the lane... I'm praying to the weather gods this comes off, after the 2013 event where the channel islands stole all our snow I think I'd have a mental breakdown if it happens again.

Icon mirrors my thoughts for how the low might look come the end of the week!

ECM shows some south coast potential on Wednesday! Especially if you are on a pokey out bit (technical term:D)

Well I've done my bit and bought the anti-freeze. My hubby is still dithering as to whether we need it :nonono:

Stock up on doughnuts. They are the antidote and will help brush off any depressionial (I made that word up) onslaught.

Hmmm - ECM absolutely buries the South West on this run. Less than a week out now. I would very much like ECM to have one of its good forecasting weeks because if it is getting this nailed then we are about to have the biggest snow storm down here in a very long time.... Anyone fancy near on 3 days of constant snow from a stalling system??!

3 days of constant snow? Yea go on then, you have twisted my arm.

Not sure but it was a marginal event for low ground so no where near depth of cold in 2009 I'd suspect? This looks like sea level and coastal areas would be safe from wet stuff currently.

Those charts are dreamy I'm even going to forget that accumulation charts are a waste of bandwidth.

And the fax chart for Tuesday shows a convergence zone in the channel. Yesterday this was further South over the channel islands.

So as you rightly say, potentially good if you're on a pokey out bit.

To be expected with very lower dew points - hardly any frost on car windscreen. Unless there's moisture in the air, we won't see much ice forming on dry surfaces. The ground will be moist so frosty grass, hedges and trees is something I'm very much looking forward to seeing, all day, late into the day.
