Convection starting already with snow showers getting going off Amble. The machine has started:yahoo:

Yep they look to be associated with the arrival of the -8 850's, should be followed up by something more beefy when the -10 arrives in a few hours (fingers crossed).

Wind picking up a bit now.  First signs of ppn on the radar now out to our North East (not the ones off Scotland)

That Low pressure feature on Tuesday will deliver some disruptive snow for sure.

Accumulations should be greater than of recent times with the same amount of ppn, as the snow will be more powdery.   These heavy showers can put an inch down each if you get a direct hit

If you run the graphics at the bottom of the page it suggests the Northern extent of the low on Tuesday is currently Teesside.

We hope to have words with the system and arrange for it to hit as per ARPEGE.

Light snow showers approaching.  I remember watching the showers start one night in Feb 1991.  Very light snow which was blowing down my street like sand along a beach.

So the snow showers approaching now from the east, most of these just out of radar area.

These will appear in the next half hour or so.

Some light ones ahead of these too.

Wind direction looks poor for places below Newcastle right now. Is that due to change?

The band of snow showers will introduce the real cold uppers and more of an easterly wind later tonight
