Several gusts well over 60mph overnight.
Any showers that make it seem rather light and blow through in a couple of minutes.

First real snow event of the winter across N UK - just as winter comes to an end this week

Will be interesting to see what happens in the morning- A real wintry mix with huge variations from one place to another.

Likely rain/sleet turning to snow for a few hours then back to rain at lower levels.

I think above 100m more chance of a good snow fall and above 200m for decent accumulations and snow throughout?

Thoughts anyone??

Well it’s snowing! Can see higher up places done well out of this. Am sure it will all be gone by dinner time but at least we can say for the first time this winter we have snow lol.

Woke up to more than I imagined in Darlington. 40 Minute drive to work when it's usually 10 minutes

It's been quite a cover here but very wet, no doubt at least 4" higher up
Not far off rain falling now though and temperature is up to 0.6C

Something of an over estimation there I suggest. You can still see the tiles on the roof!

Pretty quite in here. Though I'd put up some photos of a squall line heading I caught while out for a run last week.

Yellow warning for heavy rain issued

16:00 Today to 14:00 Tomorrow

A spell of heavy rain may bring surface water flooding and affect travel.

What to expect

  • There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater with homes and businesses flooded, causing damage to some buildings

  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer and there there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services as well as road closures.
  • There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses

Rain will become heavy and persistent during Thursday evening, overnight and into Friday morning. Widely 30-40 mm of rain is likely with spots of 50-70 mm in places. These higher totals are most likely over the high ground of the North York Moors.

  • Hartlepool
  • Middlesbrough
  • Newcastle upon Tyne
  • North Tyneside
