Snow all afternoon. Hills above 500ft covered in snow. Down in the valleys we got a covering but probably won't last. Still the app says snow every day until next Tuesday. So White Christmas is possible.

Nenthead is still moe snowy than I expected, here we had  a few flakes in the morning but the heavier precip mid-afternoon on was sleety rain.

Yellow warning issued for snow and ice

21:00 Today 11:00 Tomorrow

Icy patches, with snow mainly on higher level routes, may cause tricky travel

What to expect

  • Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times
  • Icy surfaces may make accidents and falls more likely.

A spell of rain and hill snow is likely to affect many areas, with skies clearing at times to allow icy surfaces, although these won't affect all places. The snow is most likely above 200 metres elevation and probably focused in the north Pennines and into parts of Scotland; here it could affect a few lower lying areas.

It got down to -2.7 here and frost persisted out of the sun all day, but air briefly reached 7C.
It has been the nicest day in weeks nonetheless.
Roads and other hard surfaces have largely dried up after the wind and lower humidity yesterday particularly.

Could this be the first year in a long time we don't have anything meaningful all winter to talk about in this thread.

Other than Earth Quakes of course.

GFS quite bullish about some snow in the early hours of Tuesday as a small LP crosses the region with cold air in place.

Been pretty desperate so far.

15:00 Today 21:00 Today

  • Strong, gusty winds on Thursday afternoon and evening, perhaps leading to travel disruption.

What to expect

  • Some delays to road, rail and air transport are likely, especially affecting high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.

Snow warning issued for Durham & Northumberland

15:00 Tomorrow to 23:59 Tue 11

  • Heavy snow showers and icy surfaces are likely to lead to travel disruption, particularly over higher routes.

What to expect

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

Showers will turn increasingly to snow later on Monday, becoming frequent and heavy at times and lasting through Tuesday. The snow showers will occur particularly over high ground giving locally 1-3 cm above around 150 metres and 3-8 cm above 300 metres. Snow will gradually build, perhaps leading to accumulation of 10-15 cm on the highest routes. Any snow accumulations over low ground are likely to be temporary. Icy surfaces are likely to cause problems, especially overnight. Strong winds will be an additional hazard with gusts of 50-60 mph at times leading to drifting of snow over high ground.

Well, the radar has a few showers crossing over to us shortly and also later on..... Just need the air temperature to drop a bit and we may see at least some falling snow!
