Further heavy rain overnight which started around 3am this week is certainly making up for the lengthy dry spell we've had over recent week

More showers are expected tomorrow. Saturday and Sunday could see some very strong winds with heavy rain Sunday remains uncertain just how far north the rain will get

Yellow warning for heavy rain issued

North East England

Heavy rain over parts of Wales and parts of England during Saturday night and into Sunday with flooding likely in places.

What to expect

• Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
• Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
• Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
• Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely

Reason for update

The warning has been extended southwards to cover parts of Staffordshire as well as parts of southwest England. Also extended northwards across the eastern side of the Pennines

An area of persistent, heavy rain will arrive from the southwest by Saturday evening before moving east overnight and through Sunday. The rain should clear from the southwest on Sunday morning but will persist over parts of north Wales and northern England through much of Sunday. Through the period many parts of this area will see 20 to 30 mm of rain. Where the heaviest rain will fall remains uncertain but there is the potential for 30 to 40 mm of rain to fall within a few hours in places as well as 60-70 mm over the higher ground of Dartmoor, Wales and the Peak District.

We're already on 11.2mm for October and it's not even 10 hours old yet!

October is shaping up to be another very wet month, and we're only 6-day's in 

The latest spell of prolonged rain has so far brought 16.5mm and rising 

The monthly total is already on 45.7mm

2018 only had 21.7mm for the entire month!

• Darlington
• Durham
• Hartlepool
• Middlesbrough
• Redcar and Cleveland
• Stockton-on-Tees

More than 25mm since it stated and at least another 3 or 4 hours to go.
Never very heavy but so persistent - hardly even eased off but sometimes heavier than others.

I get the impression there's been much less even a little further north?
Another striking feature is the gradual cooling at about 0.2C per hour, it was 8C when it started but 3.8C now, would have been very grim if not almost calm. 
There must be some wet snow in it above about 1000 feet I think.

We've had 19.8mm in Darlo since 1pm yesterday never torrential but some heavier bursts and persistent

We seem to be in one of those really wet spells at the moment that come along every so often, a bit like when the 1976 drought broke. All rain is heavy, with frequent daily totals over the 10mm mark. Here in Durham, every month since June has been wet.

It was sleeting here about midnight but only counted less than 1mm -  expected a dusting of white higher up this morning but couldn't see any without going up there.

Now up past 80mm for November and still only half way!

105mm here but I suspect the second half will be more normal and we won't reach more than 150% of the usual 100mm or so .
November is the wettest here by some margin, perhaps surprisingly August is runner up with mean of 84mm

start of the winter officially on Sunday, hopefully going to be better than last years poor showing, canny frosty outside as I post this, had quite a few mornings so far this November when I've scraped  ice of the car, hopefully signs of a decent winter ahead bring it on
