A spell of snow may bring some travel disruption, especially over higher ground.

What to expect

There is a small chance of significant travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel

A developing area of low pressure is expected to track across Northern Ireland, northern England and southern Scotland on Saturday. As this runs into colder air, snow is likely to develop, particularly in any heavier bursts of precipitation. The largest snowfall amounts will be confined to higher ground, with the potential for 10-20 cm of snow above 350 m. Between 100 m and 350 m elevation, a mixture of rain, sleet and snow is more likely, but there is potential for accumulations of 2-5 cm, and a small chance of 10 cm should the precipitation be heavy enough to maintain snow for a longer duration. With warm air close by to the south, it may be that places in the south of this warning area end up with mainly rain.

So Teesside misses out on the last chance of snow this winter. 

Not i see this being much of an event but still just colour that area we live in summer sun to make us all happy, even if it wont happen lol.

The Met Office probably right to cover themselves at this stage, chance southern parts of the area i.e. region covered by this thread might just see rain, away from north Northumberland, but equally if the low tracks a bit further south - due to less deepening then more modest levels across whole region might hold onto some snow for a lengthier period. Still away from high ground, any snow that does settle will be slushy and wet and probably quickly thaw as milder uppers invade for a short time.

The same day last year brought significant snowfall..

Woke up to turn heating up and found out reason why, good preemptive sign for my annual snow insurance trip to Reykjavik next week.

Have to say I'm normally quite lucky in UK for Birthday snow, moreso than Jan or Feb ❄❄

Presume it was wet snow here for a while when it started at 1.4C pre-dawn, but temp is rising steadily and now 5.7c
Already clicked past 10mm but looks to be about through by 1pm

The far NE of the region looks like it was just under cold enough uppers combined with evaporative cooling to enable snow to fall at least for a short while. Here uppers were too high and the precipitation has been rain all the way, and I suspect only highest ground is seeing snow, above about 600 metres - and a slushy wet mix there as well.

It's time for the lovely seasonal roak, 6C and thick fog with a keen NE wind since 5pm.

It was quite dramatic watching the first tentacles racing over the hill tops at first. 
Anyone caught out walking up there won't be having fun.

Today could have been grim but the main showery mess is staying further west, we don't even have much wind.
Hilltops are white from a sleety snow shower late yesterday.

A day of contrasts. Out on Cross Fell, still firmly winter in the high Pennines, low cloud from 600 metres, a cold wind, and snow underfoot - three warm layers needed, alas on descent to Blencarn the sun burst through and it was thick layers off, fleece hat exchanged for sun cap, and the afternoon saw cloud burn off the tops.

All emphasising how contrasting April is between the high hills and valleys and dales.

It did brighten up somewhat yesterday and reached about 9C, struggling today at 6.2 and thick fog with some drizzle.Very typical of April here not far from the coast.
I suppose sea temperature is also about 6C.

Although not everywhere will get one, heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to break out across central and northern England during Wednesday afternoon, easing from the south during the evening. These thunderstorms bring the potential for lightning strikes and hail, with sudden downpours and gusty winds.

Since it's only 11C with NE wind back again this seems unlikely anywhere near the east coast.

A decent chance for a dusting of snow for parts of the region tonight as showers work in from the North sea.

Yes could be a very light dusting in a number of spots, but will quickly disappear. Also a widespread frost, with air frost in quite a few places.

Its a superb long drawn northerly from the other side of the Pole. Proper cold synoptics.
