• Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
• Some roads and bridges may close
• Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
• Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties

I don't see much to worry about in the NE side, Pennines and NW maybe worse?

It's rathe funny in a way, we had gusts of 53mph a couple of times last night but the warnings from noon until 10 am tomorrow covers an period with gusts under 40mph as the Low will pass more or less overhead.
Could be about 5mm of rain - rather welcome for now.

Reason for update

The warning area has been adjusted slightly, removing northernmost parts of England, and extended southeastwards to include Norfolk and more of Cambridgeshire.

Storm Freya is expected to push quickly north-east across parts of England and Wales through Sunday afternoon and evening, before clearing into the North Sea through the early part of Monday. Gusts of 55-65 mph are likely widely, with the potential for gusts of 70-80 mph for coastal parts of Cornwall, northern Devon, Wales and north-west England. The very highest winds look likely to occur on Sunday evening over parts of coastal Wales.

• Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

A band of rain, sleet and snow, accompanied by gusty winds, will move eastwards across Northern Ireland during the early hours of Sunday and then continue into Scotland and parts of northern England. For most areas, rain, sleet and snow will tend to only last for two or three hours, but there is potential for sleet and snow to become more persistent over the Outer Hebrides and Highland during Sunday morning. Where snow falls, 1 to 3 cm are likely whilst on ground above 200 metres 2 to 5 cm is likely and above 400 metres, accumulations will be higher and close to 5 to 10 cm in some places. Icy patches are also likely to develop on untreated surfaces as rain, sleet and snow clears, most likely over Northern Ireland.

Icy patches and wintry showers expected Sunday night and first thing Monday giving a few travel problems.

What to expect

• Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

Widespread icy patches will develop on untreated surfaces Sunday evening and night. Wintry showers will also continue through Sunday evening and night onwards into Monday morning, especially over Scotland and Northern Ireland. Snow accumulations will tend to be largely confined to hills and mountains above 200-300 metres where a few cms snow is possible. At lower-levels, any accumulations of snow will tend to be quite small and patchy in nature with most areas not seeing any snow settling.

Strange how we had a weather warning added for snow here overnight from 9pm, yet the Beeb TV forecast half hour ago showed clear here and dry overnight. The joys of relying on old data!

Think I will trust the brand new Met Office warning!
