So the snow is a melting and as some have mentioned less cold over the coming days, Next week will feel milder compared to late but not as mild as further south.

Still the chance of some colder nights this coming week depending on cloud cover.

One thing to watch in the models is a trend to blocking to develop once more from next weekend, So potential for this less cold/mild period to be rather short lived.

Expect some interesting charts to show there hands by wednesday onwards, as ever not certain but some support for cold to return w/c 11th...

Right on cue, both 0z and 12z showing some interest for things to become more blocked and perhaps colder next week ECM1-216.thumb.gif.0d5673a9e635b0179d804f684d5a169c.gifECM1-192.thumb.gif.52fe9a4d76f1ce83359a07bca6d979c8.gif

They probably ought to have warned abut rain rather than wind, 15mm since 4am here, but only light wind so far.

Rain was worse here about 1pm yesterday, but another 4mm or so.
Like yesterday it could well have been almost 2x that as the gauge can't catch a good percentage in high wind.
Gust of 66mph at about 7am and 61mph at 8:30, but not noticed any damage yet,  easing slowly now though.Blakey Ridge recorded 75mph perhaps surprising they didn't go higher, however the air flow is often smoother higher up with less marked gusts from rotor effects.

Looking forward to the quieter spell incoming, strong winds disturbing sleep is not nice

Yes a bit wild last night, was woken by the wind and rain lashing against window.

Still windy here but showers seem to have eased.

Looking more settled next week but a lot of cloud likely and mildish... rather boring imo.

I wrote off the opening half of Feb last week, but avoided writing off the entire month whilst we still have time yet it's going to need a big turn around to save the final 11-days or so

Despite the mild temps, lack of sun with mostly cloudy skies has restricted the pleasant feel of things.

more sunshine over the next few days should help the temps rise a little further, so should feel milder.

high pressure looks to sit around or be close to the uk for the remainder of February.

Well my towel is in now for February, roll on spring. This winter has been poor let's hope for a warm settled spring and summer. Although a potent northerly in March wouldn't go a miss

We have imported some very dry air today, gone is the usual dank muggy humid feel to things which often comes when mild conditions invade from the SW. The drier air with low dewpoints and lapse rates has made it feel very continental - hence it has felt warmer than temperatures suggest - but temps in the low teens in mid Feb will always feel warmer than they are.

Mid Feb often marks a subtle change in the feel of things, the sun now starts to gain a bit more power, and we are starting to see a rapid rate of increased levels of light. However, we are still firmly in winter mode, and it will be a good 4 weeks yet, before I start to gain that true spring feel, until then its a slow gradual transition phase - the main shift in feel comes at the end of March.

Tomorrow will be a carbon copy of today, the weekend will see more cloud especially here, with some drizzle on Saturday and perhaps more overcast grey skies on Sunday, pity today's weather couldn't have waited two more days in this respect.

It came in really thick after dark here yesterday surfaces were damp - but all gone at sunrise.
Not such a cool start today, with light wind I wonder if high so far of 14.6C might be broken.

Things have come together here today with 16.9C just now, it has been a little lack lustre so far just scraping 15C yesterday.
Whitby area has previously held a temperature record due to Foehn effect in light SW winds descending from the moors.
We can get that too with Blakey and Ralphs Cross area just to the South.
