Snow and ice warning

  • Hartlepool
  • Middlesbrough
  • Newcastle upon Tyne
  • North Tyneside
  • Northumberland
  • Redcar and Cleveland
  • South Tyneside
  • Stockton-on-Tees

Between 12:00 Fri 1st and 12:00 Sat 2nd

Snow showers and icy stretches may cause some travel disruption.

What to expect

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some ice on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

Further details

Snow showers over northern Scotland and eastern England will also start to affect parts of western UK during Friday evening and night. Meanwhile, over northern Scotland showers will merge into longer periods of snow and here accumulations of 2-5 cm are possible with 5-10 cm perhaps falling over higher routes. Away from northern Scotland, snow accumulations will be much smaller and patchier in nature, but 2-4 cm are possible in a few places above 100 metres, perhaps most especially the North Yorkshire moors. With temperatures also falling below freezing Friday late afternoon and evening, there will be some icy stretches, especially on untreated surfaces.

We need this sun to do one . I am still hopeful of a decent night of showers and laying snow.

Fingers crossed.

Snow shower just started.

I am keeping an eye on this line of shower.  They highlighted part of it has appeared out of nowhere in the last 30 mins and is heading for the Tyneside area

The main activity is transferring to the south of the region.  The fax chart does show a feature there which will intensify the showers

Heavy snow in Saltburn. Big flakes so must be very wet. Giving everything a good covering though.

Good to hear for your location; means conditions are less marginal!

Lashing it down with graupal again - glad I'm inside.

Should be a bit more activity in an hour or so for the Newcastle/ tyne valley area due to a long streamer being produced out in the north sea as P-M kindly highlighted in the post above.

Durham looks like missing out yet again. Never seem to get a streamer here.

Seems quite conductive out there though. Still a bit out but they seem to be coming from nowhere so still a good chance
