Think it will be snow right to the coast just looks the right side of marginal, according to this data anyway

There's been a line of cloud boiling in situ right along the coast all afternoon - quite interesting to watch.

I guess thats snow coming in off the north sea?

It looks like it yes but further south in the region the radar returns suggesting it could be sleety.  Either way nothing to write home about yet I just wanna see that radar light up like a Times Square Christmas tree (prob won't happen) and then I'll happy.

Looks like Northumberland is the place to be at the minute - possible streamer setting up?

Once you get a cold NEly the shower activity normally always greater than on initial forecasts and models.  Hopefully this short blast will remind us of 2010

You can see why tomorrow is looking particularly good from a shower perspective with the Low to the south turning the winds into the east as it moves eastwards. The beeb have some big showers forming

Let’s hope we all get a nice suprise tonight. Nothing beats looking at the radar to the packed showers out to sea.

I’ve no doubt it will be snow tonight it’s freezing out there already.

Because thats the last time we had a slack NE flow with air cold enough to produce snow showers.  Granted that flow lasted a long time, but even a short blast such as what is coming will hopefully give us a reminder of then.

Watch out for streamers forming tomorrow.  i much prefer it to the Beast last year when the showers get blown over quick

People go way over the top in here. I'm willing to be proven wrong but tonight/tomorrow is not going to be anything like 2010.

Agree, I had thundersnow all night with about 15-20cm accumulating.

Tonight is just a scattering of slow moving sleet/snow showers that will give a covering in places.

Though i get the point of the slack NE'ly - Easterly cold flow and last years BFTE focused the snow on the east pennines

Do not underestimate the N.Sea snow machine.  I have been surprised by it many times over the years.  The showers always start earlier, are more intense and last longer than forecast in this type of flow.  What we got in 2010 was very special and never initially forecast.   To be like 2010 just means a good amount of heavy snow showers packing into the region for a period.  It would certainly remind me of 2010 if that happens.

I did not say it would be near.  i said remind.  And what will remind is snow showers coming in off a slack NE flow that does not get moderated too much by the N.Sea.  I was never thinking it was going to be a 2010 event.  That was a once in a life time one.

Anyway.  All eyes to the radar.  Especially when the flow turns NE as thats when streamers can form.
