Ice & fog

Between 22:00 Wed 30th and 11:00 Thu 31st

  • Darlington
  • Durham

Areas of freezing fog will form across England on Wednesday night and be slow to clear on Thursday morning

What to expect

  • Slower journey times with delays to bus and train services possible
  • There is a chance of delays or cancellations to flights
  • Probably some ice on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

Further details

A very cold night is expected across England with areas of freezing fog forming and very poor visibility in places, perhaps below 100 m. Some icy conditions are also possible in association with the freezing fog.

Suppose it's something to look forward to or at least get mildly excited about (re the showers Thurs into Fri), but as NL points out the coast will see the best share of these unless they push way inland.

A bit of warmth in that Sun today

That bit of warmth as helped form some showers inland across southern england and even noticed the clouds increase up here too but this now fading.

Very cold night ahead, maybe the coldest so far this winter???

It's cloudy and holding above freezing so far, but like this morning it will drop fast when the sky clears.

Yes many of the hi-res models picking up snow showers Thursday night into friday with these probably forming bands or streamers at times.

Sunday evening into monday could have a snow risk as a front moves across the region...just one to watch for now

Nothing marginal for Friday should be snow right out to the coast, would be nice to see some streamers set up

This is for the mighty Redcar Screenshot_20190130-200319.png

Good chance of snow showers later Thursday and Friday morning - thanks to a NE wind, these could form streamers and bands and may be quite heavy..

Sunday now looks quite snowy as well - a band of sleet/snow crossing the region from the west, heaviest precipitation in Cumbria.

Looking at the high res models it's not even 96hrs they haven't all agreed on the snow by the end of Friday yet
