Is it forecast to pivot though once it moves so far south?

Once it clears through that's it for us skies will slowly clear through the evening and ice will become a major issue.

Tomorrow looks like it'll be a lovely day with lots of sunshine

Thursday still open to debate the current thoughts from the beeb below

God knows this time yesterday most of the models didn't even have the front reaching us yet

Well that was exciting

Really thought we might of had more falling snow today, didn't expect much settling snow away from high ground mind. So in that respect i'm not too disapointed.

Still time yet it could track further north

Not had chance to see the early output this afternoon so not sure how it's looking so far

The way it went today I think leaving it to 'now-casting' would be preferable. Models showed Dp's falling away but here theyve actually increased from 0.5℃..!!

UKMO 12z doesn't show much precipitation for our region.

A long way off yet but I think expectations need to be kept low for our region to avoid mass disappointment like what often happens in the MAD thread

The biggest 'hazard', over here, will come from Netweather members spending too much time concentrating on roadside dark objects...or, even more hazardous, looking for sleet blobs, on their windscreens!:hi:

We must be due to get the showers coming in from the East after that low has passed down south.

Lets hope we get a few surprises.

Sunday also looks good for a period of snow with a front coming in from the North West.

Any of the advanced members able to shed more light on these warnings?

I'll bank that for now.  It makes me sick how difficult it is to get a decent frigid spell in this boring country.  Honestly you couldn't make it up, cold to the se, e, ne, n, nw, even 850s of sub zero at one point somewhere in the Atlantic, yet always misses us.  A big SSW that has so far done nothing for the UK (yes I know there's loads of time for the downwelling to have an effect) but it's just so mundane.  It wouldn't be so bad if we had some interesting weather in the meantime but no; cold, damp, miserable and boring.

Anyway I've spat all my dummies out now; fingers crossed for something decent going into Feb.

A little more positive about Thursday night/Friday morning.

Yes we miss out on the low to the south but that low will help bring a cluster of wintry showers from the north sea, probably forming in lines so some will see more than others and will definitely be a radar watching night for sure lol. With it being night time this will help snow showers settle away from the east coast, a more wintry mix there but snow inland and decent dew points, upper temps etc look favourable this time.

If showers do develop off the east coast I think folk on the coast might fair better with the chance of settling snow, with Dew points well below freezing ( -3.3℃ at midnight Thu/Fri) and 850hpa are approaching -8℃, the SST here in South Shields are slightly below average at 7.2℃ (average is 7.4℃..!!) so there's a chance but its a case of wait and see.
