Snowing here the past half hour, it's +0.7 so some surfaces are thawing, others not where frozen.
I expect evaporative cooling and a significant cover by early afternoon but all standard stuff no blizzard.
We get far more serious snow from north sea showers here, frontal snow events are puny fluttery events by comparison.

Yellow warning for snow & ice issued

Between 15:00 Thu 31st and 12:00 Fri 1st

  • Darlington
  • Durham
  • Hartlepool
  • Middlesbrough
  • Redcar and Cleveland
  • Stockton-on-Tees

Snow and ice may bring disruption to parts of England and Wales from Thursday afternoon through to early Friday

What to expect

  • There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel
  • There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off
  • There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
  • There is a small chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

Further details

Rain and snow is expected to move in from the southwest, moving across England and Wales through Thursday into Friday. This is likely to fall as heavy rain at first across the far southwest of England, but as it meets the cold air established over the rest of the country snow becomes more likely. There is a chance of 2-5cm of snow for some places, timings are currently uncertain. 10cm is possible in places, though there is uncertainty at this stage on where is most likely to see the greater snowfall accumulations. Overnight Thursday into early Friday ice may also become a hazard on any untreated surfaces as temperatures fall below freezing.

Intermittent moderate / light rain here but I think the warning is for this PM isn't it rather than this morning?

Think my height near Consett putting me on border of snow line looking at radar. The next clump coming through from South West looks a bit more exciting.

I think its struggling to get over to the east coast. Lets hope because we haven't had anything yet when or if it does reach us then its snow and the ground is dry.

Yeah that's my hope,  need the Dew points to drop away before any precipitation arrives,  if it does

The warning has only just come into effect at 12pm so who knows.  I think as the afternoon wears on it'll turn to snow in a fair few places although not much just a few cm's maybe?

Light snow starting again although I've now lost view of Pennines which is always a good sign, radar does show it growing in intensity and moving slowly East
