Looks like a shower streamer setting up across the East of the region, although would have been better through the night, but beggars can't be chosers.❄️

cold, wet & windy with a few bits of sleety stuff mixed in here in Westmoor - hopefully might turn to snow a bit later

Barely arrived here yet, just  patchy fine sleety rain blowing in the wind with a hint of hail.
Vicious windchill out there though.

Chucking it down in Redcar with some flakes amongst the heavier bursts. Blowing a gale and colder than a brass toilet seat in alaska . Lovely stuff!

It is snowing but rather trivial amounts - and still above freezing even higher up due to wind a bit off the sea.

Snow prospects for coming days will come down to nowcasting. At this range, there are a few opportunities for much of the region. Monday evening will see a frontal feature cross the region, snow most likely with a bit of altitude, hard to pin down, heaviest precipitation in the west of the region (Cumbria). Tuesday brings another frontal feature with more oomph to it from the west through the day - this could give a general snow cover to whole region depending on where it tracks and the intensity of precipitation - any cover will freeze, and remain in situ on Wednesday which promises to be a very cold day  just like last wednesday - possible ice day, Thursday potential for significant snowfall, but could miss the region, or be a patchy affair - it will linger into Friday as well. A wintry week!

Tuesdays front that develops around irish sea will push across the region and tonight models suggest we may see a more notable spell of snow across the region (still very uncertain mind) ECMWF_048_GB_SFC_fr-FR_fr.thumb.png.ad1ffcf5185a94c9ae0e6fe26a550493.pngECMWF_054_GB_SFC_fr-FR_fr.png

Thursday into friday may see a front stall and weaken across the NE, so this is our biggest chance of significant snowfall.

Some very cold nights too.

Your having a laff, 266 pages of drivel in the MAD thread on Tuesdays non white wash and my location is practically only spot to have no accumulation. If I have to take a shovel and steal some I will.

What happens to the bridge workings if it gets much higher?
Loos like there's a couple of inches above about 1000 feet, someone just arrived from Rosedale with about that much on their car roof.

Level 3 cold weather alert issued

Current alert level: Level 3 - Cold Weather Action

Issued at: 08:54 on Mon 28 Jan 2019

There is a 90% probability of severe cold weather/icy conditions/heavy snow between 0900 on Monday 28 Jan and 0900 on Friday 01 Feb in parts of England. This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services. Please refer to the national Cold Weather Plan and your Trust's emergency plan for appropriate preventive action.

Cold weather is expected to continue to affect the country through the coming week with generally northwesterly winds, with the risk highest across the north of the country. Monday and much of Tuesday will be dry and cold for much of the country away from coasts where some showers are likely which could turn wintry and where icy patches are most likely.

A band of rain crossing eastwards across the country later Tuesday and into Wednesday will turn to snow at times to all levels with the some of the greatest amounts across the higher ground of the south and southeast of the UK. The cold conditions are expected to continue through the rest of the week, with bands of rain turning to snow through Thursday and into Friday, although confidence in timing and amounts beyond Wednesday is low at this stage.

An update will be issued when the alert level changes in any region. Alerts are issued once a day by 0900 if required and are not subject to amendment in between standard issue times. Note that the details of the forecast weather are valid at the time of issue but may change over the period that an alert remains in force. These details will not be updated here unless the alert level also changes, the latest forecast details can be obtained at the following link: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/#?tab=map

Tuesday now looks like the only day for some of us to get snow.

Looks like Thursdays chances have now gone getting milder towards weekend turning colder again after.

All very tame stuff.
