For what's is worth after reading though various forecasts/opinions I think end of January and February will be very interesting with plenty to get this thread busy again. I think the nirvana charts will start showing by the weekend.

Dusting over the North York Moors possible tonight, many of us close the east coast may see some showers but likely just wintry in nature with accumulations reserved for the Moors.

Here's the forecast for the high point in the NYM at 454m asl.

20 miles south here we are forecast sleet showers so the harsh winter continues

I'm not sure that forecast is to be trusted though as the more local option for me (Castleton) shows a few busts of drizzle.
Some flakes will be falling at some point no doubt, and it might be blowing about in the wind higher up - which is nice to see if you aren't in danger of getting stuck up there.

Anyone getting snow from these showers, especially inland on higher ground?

The models are starting too look good in FI though and our region is always the best part of the country imo when the winds are in from the NE or E

They are indeed, not long now. Not expecting a BFTE just yet.

Some wintry weather later next week and esp W/C 21st.

Tick Tock....

A few flakes of snow here first thing this morning from those light showers that pushed inland.

Hopefully things will liven up as we head deeper into January.

Yes finally some colder weather on the way this week but may have to wait till next week for any meaningful snow.

Some Wintry showers midweek to get your juices going

Hopefully we will get some surprises come Thursday morning.

The model output thread is annoying at the moment one minute its snowmageddon next its westerlies. Its just confusing to people like me who know a bit but not a lot.

I think its a case of lets just see whats going to happen. If its an easterly were in great location if its north westerlies not so much. Either way am hopeful of at least some snow before March.

Blocked or not Blocked where we putting our money?

Further details

Icy patches are expected to develop later Wednesday evening or overnight over southern Scotland and Northern Ireland and during the early hours of Thursday over England and Wales. There will also be some wintry showers about, mainly over hills and mountains, but also to some lower levels at times, most likely in parts of Scotland and northern, eastern and central England. Some Prozac required in the model thread. I still think we may see something from the East.

My money would be on a westerly incursion though. Cold and frosty is the order of the day for now....or soon.

Just a quick update...

Tonight rain/sleet/snow showers in the early hours followed by much colder air which leads us into a cold thursday with sleet/snow showers becoming more evident towards the east. Slight coverings for hilly areas esp NY Moors.

Friday night into saturday will see a weakening band of sleet/snow stall across the region.

Next week, esp Tuesday could have a real snow risk (one to watch)

After that i am leaning towards what models are showing this evening and met still firm on things turning much colder into Feb
