Thought you built a snowman for a brief moment then when I first glimpsed that first photo . Not often you see pumpkins in the snow. Kind of reminds me of the film ' The Nightmare before Christmas' when Jack Skellington accidentally discovers Christmas Town .

Yes, looks like the north-east has done ok in areas today. Snow on Sutton Bank in the 'north' of North Yorkshire, and a couple of heavy snow showers in Northallerton but what was starting to lay has not been topped up!! Good pictures though people, great to see!

Whilst driving back from work you could clearly see consett hills and surrounding areas covered in snow.

Been a fun morning, but for majority it has been a wintry mix, wet and cold.

Some decent sunny spells now.

Have you been up there, have been loading an artic truck with wool sheets at the collection site (Castleton) this morning, and he said it was a struggle at highest points coming up empty.
We were kind of lucky with just 2 or 3 hail showers while doing the job.

Was up there all morning, drove around in snow for an hour or so then went to Graze on Green for breakfast (freebie for setting them a weather station up).

Then went back to Lion Inn to put some new batteries in the Vue console.

Fun morning and the pictures seemed to of gone down well on social media.

Impressed with snowfalls a number of spots recorded yesterday - wasn't expecting it, a combination of the showers being heavier than anticipated and occurring just at the right time - following a cold night and minimal solar heating combined with an injection of low thicknesses and uppers and the added effect of evaporative cooling. Surprised that preety low level locations also received a dusting. Similiar to events exactly 6 years ago, when snow settled in much of inland County Durham under a northerly.

Over on this side of the Pennines, the fells were spared any precipitation and instead yesterday was a bitter day to be on the high tops. Ground frozen from about 500 metres upwards, lots of verglas about and small icy waterfalls on rocks. My water in my water bottle froze. Felt more akin to late Nov/early December.

Tonight promises to be the coldest of the season so far here with a widespread air frost - under clear skies and little wind.

Dusting of hail here this morning not melted from the overnight shower. Nice to see and wets the appetite for what's I think will be a memorable winter

Still just below freezing after a low of -1.3, there's been a brief snow shower or two and tops are white again, here some surfaces are kind of dotted with big flakes

We are forecast to be 3c currently...... its -1c!

Many places across North Yorkshire well below freezing, few spots at -3c and one location in the Yorkshire Dales at -4c.

First snowfall of the season on the fells, missed out on Saturday. All quite normal, it was a dusting really, above about 500 metres. Normally mid November before we see snow settle to any great depth at modest heights i.e. around 300-400 metres. The last two Novembers have brought cold snowy snaps in November, often happening at the weekend, especially third one - will we see a third on the trot?

A cold frosty start but once the sun got to work it felt quite pleasant away from shaded areas

The coming week is going to be much milder both by day and night

And reasonably dry again for the time of year.
October ended up about 20mm above normal here so no harm in that.
Until about mid-month the general dryness was a little worrying for our spring water supply with cattle about to be housed, not that it had given any cause for concern at all this year.
I think it was about 1993 September and October were dry and it was barely coping until well into November when a few rain storms passed through.

For all the fuss about drought earlier it can't have been too bad as I recall several summers when water troughs in the yard had to be turned off to keep the house going. Cows can drink from a stream if need be, while they are out.

A cooler week is on the way the feel will be made worse by the wind

Low-level areas shouldn't see temps desperately low as such it'll be rain rather than snow away from high ground

If only it was that bit colder, this place would be in meltdown right now . Plenty of showers coming off the sea but just plain old rain for most.

yes unfortunately these synoptics are coming just a bit too early for low level snow - a colder pool over the continent and 3 weeks on and we would be in business. Alas pleasing to see an easterly in November - long time since we've had one.
