Most certainly could be the 'heaviest' for a while the extended outlook is looking warm and dry

Looks like a great storm coming in now. Can here in distance constant rumble of thunder and lightening. Half 10 ish looks very interesting with red burst of rain from radar.

Drove out too staithes incredible storm . Big surface water flooding . Not a drop here the drought goes on

heavy rain only now I think the lightening is more towards the Boro

That storm last night was a treat, lots of lightning and very close too with loud thunder and intense rainfall.

Last a while too.

Few more showers next couple of days then back to the heat and dryness.

We were more or less under a chain late yesterday, and it was rumbling from 6pm until after midnight.
34mm from intermittent heavy rain - looks greener already.
Interesting streams and rivers have only gone up modestly suggesting most of it soaked in to the ground.

The total rainfall from last nights storm in Gilesgate, Durham was 30.3mm. That broke a rainless period of 25 days since June 20th.

Another spell of welcomed rain today, had a good few hours here in Aycliffe this afternoon.

A mixed bag this week whilst parts of the SE swelter in the low 30's we'll be in the 20's nights will be a mix of muggy and the odd fresher one

Between 14:00 Fri 27th and 23:45 Fri 27th

What to expect

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost

Whilst many places are likely to remain dry, there is the potential for thunderstorms to develop during Friday afternoon, lasting well into the evening. Where these occur expect torrential downpours with a much as 30 mm of rainfall in 1 hour and 60 mm in 3 hours. Large hail and strong, gusty winds will be additional hazards.

There is a slightly increased likelihood of thunderstorms affecting parts of England on Friday. The warning area has been extended further south and parts of northwest England have been removed.
