Colder air well established here now, all snow falling in Aycliffe. Nothing heavy, but steadily falling.

Incredible really now to 5 hours ago.

From the Drive home from work, it was clear the snow line for lying snow was only a few metres below my town at 232m, at Hobson. Always makes me feel smug, driving back uphill, for buying a house in a location I could see and was jealous of, across the valley, due to visible snow for those extra few days, from a location only tens of metres below from where I lived in Chopwell, on the other side of valley, as seen snow free below ?

The light fall after midnight took the daily tally for falling snow to an amazing 40 days since November, not to mention all the days patches have survived including from the first beast that are still there. Quite epic and long may these extended and severe modern winters last and fingers xd for 18/19, not long to go at this rate ❄⛄

PS, be wary of icy patches as it was looking very sparkly at 4am out there

Roads are sheets of ice here this morning, but it ought to soon melt.
Just slightly below freezing about sunrise. There's lying snow above about 1000 feet but it was rather light here after it got cold enough towards midnight.

Quite a dramatic temperature fall yesterday afternoon.

Still a nip in the air and turning chilly now sun setting.

An easterly returns for a time next week low cloud likely to roll in from the north sea temps will really struggle when it arrives but not low enough for snow with precipitation watery rather than wintry

Yellow warning for heavy rain issued

Covers

  • Darlington
  • Durham
  • Gateshead
  • Hartlepool
  • Middlesbrough
  • Newcastle upon Tyne
  • North Tyneside
  • Northumberland
  • Redcar and Cleveland
  • South Tyneside
  • Stockton-on-Tees
  • Sunderland

Headline

Heavy rain is expected during Tuesday, especially during the morning.

What to expect

  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and business is likely
  • Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely

Further details

An area of persistent rain is expected to move northwards across northeast England during the early hours of Tuesday. Outbreaks of heavy rain can be expected at times before rain eases and clears northwards during Tuesday afternoon. Rainfall totals of 10-20 mm are likely and 30 mm is possible in a few locations with much of this falling within a period of around 6 hours. Due to the ground already being near saturated in these areas this brings an increased risk of surface water flooding.

What a glorious day today, I think the is the first time this year I've felt warm in just a t shirt!

Has anyone any idea of how much rain we will actually get with this weather warning? I'm taking 5 kids, a puppy and a trailer from Jarrow to Lazonby tomorrow morning, leaving around 9.30am. (Alcohol will travel safely in a cool box next to me for the minute we get there ?)
