Tomorrow mate, the morning will see a mixture of rain, sleet and snow. This of the showery nature.

This falling as sleet and snow more readily during the early hours and may give slight covering on high ground above 250m

Colder air now moving over the region.

Mondays snow now looking more likely to be restricted to high ground with many places east of peninnes seeing a brief spell of sleet/snow as it moves up from thr south.

Cheers Doc for the heads up. The Mrs thinks I'm bonkers going fishing, she's probably right lol

Overnight met office update

Monday:

A mix of rain, sleet and snow will continue with snow accumulating across hills. This turning to rain at all levels through the late afternoon and evening, clearing north overnight. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Much milder on Tuesday and Wednesday with rain or showers, perhaps heavy and thundery, although the odd sunny spell. Probably drier on Thursday, although showers still possible, with breezy winds.

If you want a last snow fix you best get your hiking boots on as it will be high ground above 250m for any settling snow tomorrow.

Still a chance of some brief sleet/snow very early in morning otherwise just a rather wet Monday.

Been trending this way the past couple of days now, sure metoffice will update warning again to probably focus more on scotland.

Tomorrow forecast to be a very miserable bank holiday, sleety wet snow first thing, then cold rain, little brightness. Oh dear.

Next week in the main looking very unsettled though much milder come Tuesday, not an inspiring start to April.

Can we skip April and move to May please.

Updated snow warning

  • Durham
  • Northumberland
Reason for update

This warning has been updated to confine the risk of medium impacts to northern England. A separate low impact snow warning has been issued for parts of Scotland.

Between 03:00 Mon 2nd and 23:59 Mon 2nd

Heavy snow is expected over parts of northern England, especially for high ground.

What to expect

  • There is a chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel
  • There is a small chance that some rural communities could become cut off
  • There is a chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected

Further details

As a weather system moves in from the south and comes up against cold air over the UK, rain will turn to heavy snow, mainly on high ground. 5-10 cm of snow is expected to accumulate in places, mainly above 350 m, with a smaller chance of 2-5 cm accumulating below this, above 250 m. There is also the possibility of a couple of cm of wet snow gather locally at lower levels for a time, before snow turns back to rain. Strong winds are also expected which will likely lead to some drifting of snow on the high ground. The snow is likely to be affecting southern parts of the warning area in the early hours of Monday spreading to all parts later on Monday morning. Snow is likely to gradually turn to rain even on the highest ground, on Monday afternoon in the southern Pennines. At present there is still some uncertainty in exact snow levels.

So falling snow still on the cards for many tomorrow morning. Above 200m this will fall all morning with some decent accumulations above 250-300m.

Temporary slushy accumulations likely on ground around 100-150m and above.

Snow in heavier bursts will fall to low ground away from coastal areas.

All in all a very miserable, cold, wet day for many tomorrow.

Some places a good 10.c warmer tuesday afteroon.

Not particular heavy at the moment, hope that heavier stuff that is giving parts of yorkshire heavy snow gets here soon before the milder air arrives.

Very sleety here now, ppn not heavy enough to cool things down for proper snow to fall to lower lying areas.

Unlike further south this morning.

Many places above around 200m have a slight covering or more currently.

I would not say nearly 200 miles is a narrow band of snow lol.

It started as fine snow but is getting heavier and wetter now with temperature creeping above 1C
Good covering higher up, here is a slushy mess, about 4mm through the gauge.

About 3cm covering on all surfaces and still falling, everything nice and white. Will the final tally be 38 days of falling snow across 6 continuous months, November, December, January, February, March and April with 2 beasts from the Easts last month. Amazing

Not a bad lass hurrah, been constant for last 4hrs switching from heavy to light and back again. I'm at 232m so in the sweet spot again.

Didn't expect to have to be clearing the drive again this extended season but can't grumble. It's definitely that marginal type which is stickier and that but heavier. At least 5cm so far with about another 3hrs to continue till it turns.

Then the 4/5 month wait for the next hunt. It's been a goodn ? and enjoyed the company as ever on here. Defo one for the archives.

The floor is yours Summer?Sun, sorry for the delays Gav, but I am looking forward to something drier whether it Mild or Cold, just anything but standard April showers.

Here's a funny video from someone in the U.S. who doesn't actually like the snow. Wish it was like that here.

The snow is finally moving off North after 7hrs. Not a bad send off although the plants that have poked their heads through in shock I think. Looking across the valley towards Chopwell, the snow line looks about 125m.

My Sonny is enjoying the final hurrah, though he's getting confused not knowing to chase snowballs, sticks or a frisbee. Pure greed
