Showers packed in and quite frequent this morning.  Could be about 1/2 inch here.

Although both these easterly blasts have bee great for blowing snow I will not remember them for heavy or prolonged showers.  They just blow past too quickly.

Temp -2.4

When it's so dry and floaty, showers seem to merge together.
t hardly stopped all night but I doubt there has been more than 3 or 4" - hard to tell with constant drifting from the start.Still flurries on and off.

White out again, Doc were are you

Sorry, i couldn't stay awake any longer.

Have woke up to more snow showers, however despite all of last nights snow showers and how heavy they were, not much more snow has accumulated.

This down to strong wind blowing snow around.

The snow and graupel to dry so not sticking.

So although awesome to watch, not great for deep lying snow.

Blizzard conditions hammering here as it has all night.. North Sea still being a snow-maker and is forecast to snow pretty much all day albeit in the form of showers. As for naming this as a 'mini' beast (dislike this terminology) is merely on the length of this cold spell and not the severity, tis truley brutal out there windchill earlier matched the last spell down to -10℃..!!

Amazing how much cloud is being generated over the North Sea considering how close to the centre of this Hp we are..Certainly puts to bed the notion that being close to a Hp kills off any shower activity..!!

Ive a trip up to the RVI Newcastle for the Clusterheadache conference today and I'm going by metro, not risking the drive and paying hospital parking charges as I'll be up there most of the day..!!

Morning update from the met office

Today:

Strong and bitterly cold winds, with sunny intervals and further snow showers. The showers most frequent and heavy through the morning, before tending to become lighter and more scattered later. Snow drifting across hills. Winds easing slowly. Maximum temperature 1 °C.

Tonight:

A rather cloudy night is expected with most areas becoming dry with easterly winds continuing to slowly decrease. Staying cold with a frost affecting most parts. Minimum temperature -5 °C.

Monday:

Monday probably a little brighter and mostly dry. Chance of showers in east. Snow will thaw in most places except across highest ground where temperatures remain below freezing. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Tuesday similar to Monday and slightly milder with snow thawing. Breezier and milder on Wednesday and Thursday with some rain in places, but a lot of dry weather is likely.

As I look out of the window and see the snow bleaching down I takes me back to the famous winter of 47' . Truly memorable and I hope you guys do not have to wait so long for another beast.  Perhaps the next one will be in midwinter and last for some time. Personally I am now ready for some southerly plumes.

Day 34 of falling snow at home. Just trying to work out the best way to get there from North Wales as looks quite bad looking at AA sight for M62 route.

Is fantastic to wake up to another snowy Birthday even better when in a Welsh Castle ❄⛄❄

Updated warnings

Between 10:05 Sun 18th and 23:55 Sun 18th

Further snow showers will affect northern England with a few in southeastern parts of England, whilst more significant areas of snow will affect Wales, southern and southwest England. A separate Amber warning is in force for the areas most likely to see disruption from snow. There is a chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel. Damage to trees or other structures increases the chance that power cuts could occur, especially over southwestern parts of England. There is a small chance that some rural communities could become cut off. Icy surfaces increase the risk of accidents and injuries. Significant wind chill and drifting will be added factors, especially over hills.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

The area of snow affecting Wales, the West Midlands and the West Country this morning will continue to move west, with the most persistent and heavy snow becoming confined to parts of southwest England and the West Country later this afternoon and evening. Snow showers will continue across northern England this afternoon with a few lighter ones in the southeast of England as well. Ice will form on untreated surfaces this evening, particularly where snow has melted through the afternoon. Further accumulations of 1-4 cm of snow are likely, whilst greater amounts will occur locally, mostly covered by the Amber warning area.

_______________________________________________________

Between 00:05 Mon 19th and 10:00 Mon 19th

Ice is likely to form on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. This increases the risk of accidents, as well as injuries due to falls. Further snow is likely across parts of the southwest of England, easing from the north by morning, with a few light snow showers for other southern counties for a time.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

After a very cold day on Sunday, temperatures are likely to fall well below freezing across many areas into the start of Monday. This will lead to any partly melted snow refreezing. Snow in the south and southwest of England will be slower to clear and may take until morning before dying out completely, whilst some wintry showers may continue to affect eastern coasts, falling onto subzero surfaces. This warning has been updated, chiefly to remove southeast Scotland (covered by a separate warning).

The heaviest snow shower of the morning just passed over, with the wind not as strong this has gave a more even extra cover of snow.

Will be tomorrow that we see a proper thaw but stil cold with a few wintry showers.

a few flakes still falling here, had a couple of heavier showers earlier this morning - judging by the radar and the forecast this could well be the last day of falling snow this season, (unless the Easter cold blast occurs) - its been a much better winter for us coldies compared to the previous few years

hope winter 2018/19 is as good if not better than 2017/18 - hopefully with a nice warm summer in between:)

1.2c currently, a bit of thaw going on especially on dark surfaces with enough energy getting through the clouds

Those snow showers eased off pretty quick around lunchtime so just cloudy with some flurries and the odd bit of brightness for this afternoon.

Slight thaw here too.
