Not a flake in Ripon

edit, as of 8.12 it is snowing lightly and covering on the dryer areas, and just seen a grittier on a back road too!

Plenty of snow on the higher ground

It's a live picture so represents what is actually there. The app is a Europe wide radar so allows you can see out into North sea.

There is no weather radar coverage out into the North Sea.

This is the area covered by raw data

And this is the image after cleaning the data with the new anomaly detection and removal and hit-accumulation filtering algorithms.

Well snowing here, that fine powdery stuff.

Suprised to have a slight covering too on all surfaces with it blowing around in the wind.

Must be freezing outside in that wind.

Radar looks impressive, these only going to get heavier as day goes on.

Morning chaps!

I'm heading off around 10. Looks OK but some heavier stuff moving into the Leeds area, so fingers crossed.

Currently in Wales where there's a few flurries. A light covering at  home looking at my doggy cam, bringing the tally to 33 days of falling snow since November, woohoo. That's the same as the national average of days that falls anywhere over the UK over 12 months. Astounding Winter.

We are going to need some really heavy snow at low ground to prevent melting the strength of the sunshine will easily out do these light showers given the time of year

Radar showing scattered moderate showers with the odd heavy burst.  Nothing of significance as yet.

Looking like the streamer that the BBC showed this morning is developing south of York

Met office morning update

Today:

Early ice is possible on untreated surfaces. Then strong, gusty and bitterly cold winds will bring snow showers across the region, with some sunny intervals in-between. Snow accumulations should be most significant on hills, with blizzards and drifting here. Maximum temperature 2 °C.

Tonight:

Snow showers, becoming heavy at times, which combined with the continued strong and bitterly cold wind will maintain the risk of blizzard conditions and drifting snow in places. Minimum temperature -5 °C.

Sunday:

Strong and bitterly cold winds, with sunny intervals and scattered snow showers. Further accumulations of snow will occur, especially over high ground, maintaining a risk of drifting and temporary blizzards. Maximum temperature 1 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Breezy with bright or sunny intervals and scattered wintry showers for Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday lighter winds and some sunny spells, but with a chance of afternoon rain. Overnight frosts.

Not sure what happened to the band of snow from the east overnight, must have fizzled as it crossed the Pennines- awoke to no snow cover and the fells only a very light dusting.

The showers are easily making there way through into Cumbria, some moderate shortlived ones so far, not enough to give a dusting, but hoping for some longer lasting heavier ones later this afternoon and evening, and perhaps a light covering -maybe a bit more.

It is very bitter in the gusting wind. A day to wrap up. This weekend will firmly be the last wintry feeling one, not only due to how cold it will be,but also the fact the clocks go forward next weekend, to experience snow falling in daylight at half 7pm feels odd, whereas at 6pm less so..

Temperature is very volatile, despite the wind sunny periods bounce it up above -1, but during showers it drops back below -2
Snow is thawing by sublimation especially in sun
