Gilesgate (Durham), about 45 mins ago. Nice way to end the spell.

Ah, bit further North than me. Hope there's only sleet for my return journey. Been I while since driving in snow, although it's similar to driving in a sandstorm, just the temperature is different

Another inch of snow up here taking the tally to 32 days of falling snow since November, just 1 day off the UK wide annual average.

Defo a slight warm up with icicles falling like spears and slowly shortening.

Rain here in aycliffe and melting.

Travelled to metrocentre this morning and drove through the thick snowfall around durham and then travelled back via sunnyside to stanley then to sacriston on to durham...

Some of the drifts on the road from stanley to sacriston were unbelievable (nearly 2m in places) well worth a look before they go and still wet snow up that way falling.

I much prefer this marginal type of snow, as the flakes are so much fatter and stickier.

Heavy rain here now - it is a slushy mess outside - had a short spell of heavy snow this morning - making this the 7th day in a row of snow falling,

which is not bad in this age of global warming!

Reckon it'll still be decent tomorrow morning?

It's definitely getting warmer, time to put the winter coat away, otherwise you become the laughing stock up here ?

Getting very misty out there now.

I would have thought so, they are huge and will take some melting lol. Was the road from sacriston via holmside, quaking houses, south moor to stanley, was down to one lane in places and  a car coming other way (too fast mind) swerved into a drift to miss me!

Thaw well and truly under way now. I would expect most of the flat lying snow to have gone by tomorrow morning and only where it has drifted or collected into large piles to remain for next few days.

Around 50% of the lawn has become visible overnight as the thaw continues the mist and murk is slowly shifting north meaning some parts of the region may see some brighter interludes  today

Extremely slow thaw here lost about 2% at most so far plus snow forecast overnight. If it wasn’t for the roads been bad the ski slopes here would of had a great weekend. A couple of photos of the conditions around here. Not my pics cause I couldn’t get out.

Big contrasts across the region, areas with alot of snow cover seeing low temps of a few degress at best plus still and alot of mist/fog/low cloud.

However places with little or no snow cover are seeing brigher conditions and temps a balmy 7c.

A thick blanket of snow remains around bishop auckland area and temp between 3 - 4.5c with cloud and mist. however hartlepool and teeside are bright or even sunny weather and temps between 6 - 8c

So depending where you live your weather will be very different to others.

I would say west of the A1 and with a little height you still looking at a wintry scene today.

It felt springlike for about 30 minutes late morning, with sun out and little wind - then fog and low cloud re-formed but it is still 4C
Snow is thawing rapidly at all levels.

BBC say NE England has a snow Ice warning met office say otherwise

YELLOW WARNING OF SNOW AND ICE for most of Scotland, and North East England

Between 00:05 Tue 6th and 21:00 Tue 6th

Scattered snow showers will affect northern Scotland during the early hours of Tuesday morning. A spell of persistent rain and hill snow is expected to develop through Tuesday morning across southern Scotland, extending into northern Scotland in the afternoon and evening. Delays to travel and public transport could occur from snow on higher ground. Spray and flooding on low level roads will probably make journey times longer.

Well the only snow left is where people had made big snowmen or where piles of snow had been shovelled. Been raining most of the night so that with the thaw has left my garden looking like a swamp atm. When the sun was out yesterday it actually felt quite warm and springlike.
