Showers intensifying, and 'streamers developing further South to affect more of our region..Already had a couple 'hefty" showers.

I think we'll see the shower intensity on the forecast change for Fri/Sat.  If the wind dies down a bit as expected the showers should have more time to pick up moisture from the sea and also when they hit land wont be moving as fast above us so should drop more.

Thats what I am hoping for.  They will be larger flakes and slower moving shower, so depositing more snow

Me too. It's been fantastic, but the one thing missing has been proper big flakes!

I cant see much happening here tonight. Unless something pops up out of no where then i cant see why we still have a warning of amber.

Yeah I wondering that, there's nothing out in the North Sea at all heading for Teesside. We'll see what happens ☺️.

Not a lot happening in the Darlo area today snow wise unless the north sea kicks into gear again later I can't see why they've extended the snow warning down here until tomorrow

Shower activity has been relatively quiet today, but we’re forecast heavy snow showers in the next hour onwards. We’ll see,,,

Nothing of significance on the radar now.  Precipitation charts showing possible showers after 6pm.  Lets see

Very cold here, -2c still.

Wind is crazy cold, lots of drifting snow across some roads from fields.

Not seen any sun today, on and off hail showers which are becoming moderate and more frequent at the moment

Dont mean to be pedantic Doc, but technically it wont be hail falling but graupel. Hail is a frozen water droplet as graupel is super-cooled liquid on a snowflake.

Looking at the radar,it seems the LP down South is throwing up some high cloud towards us which is killing the convection a bit across Southern parts of the region, but this should only be temporary until the LP backs away SW later on.

The Americans call it soft hail so I think thats where the confusion may come, they mustn't like the Germans as Ive just found out its possible origin..

Did You Know?

The word graupel is Germanic in origin; it is the diminutive of Graupe, meaning "pearl barley." According to etymologists, there does seem to be a grain of truth in the assumption that the word grew from the Slavic word krupa, which has the same meaning. Graupel was first seen in an 1889 weather report and has been whirling around in the meteorology field ever since to describe "pellets of snow" or "soft hail" (the latter phrase is an actual synonym of graupel).

Tomorrow

Friday:

Still cold with frequent snow showers continuing to drift off the North Sea, but perhaps a little less cold than recent days with winds moderating later in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 1 °C.

I wish it would hurry up and bugger off then lol To be fair with the wind out there today and the deep laying snow it's like a proper icy winters day - except it's spring.  We've done well overall I reckon for this region but fingers crossed there's more to come before the thaw!

The clue is in the writing - perhaps a little less cold lol 1c won't be melting snow fast and also continued risk of snow showers so happy days!

A repeat of the last 3 nights would be the icing on the cake. :D
