Those will grow as they get closer to the coast, think it's down to the change in wind direction, plenty further out on the radar

Current conditions are just amazing.  Drifting snow, -4c.  Very rare event. I am loving it

I have noticed the Met Office website has crashed and they have had to alter it to meet demand.

much fewer showers out in the north sea too

Hopefully these pick back up later.

There's less CAPE available further out at sea but as they approach closer to the shore there's a bit more to tap into..Waters are slightly warmer closer to the shore so will aid convection. This usually falls off quickly during the summer months but with relatively warm seas during the winter this can continue well into the night.

Getting very dark again all of a sudden after the last impressive shower left a light covering on surfaces where snow was cleared.

Here we go, heavens have opened.

Got 13 inches here now so only 26 inches to go to beat 2010!

Sorry I was thinking for you to hit 30 cm should have been more specific.

White-out here in Belford for last 1hr+. And a snow plough just passed my house. Enjoying every minute of this wondrous weather. Amazed at efforts of bin men who turned up early this am - thank you for huge efforts!

Mine did not turn up and there was only 1cm overnight.  Had much more than that today

@NL  That shower off the east coast has your name written all over it!  Here's hoping it keeps in intensity.

Is it me or does that shower look like Italy is about to make landfall?

My 9 year old daughter and her class are stuck up at High Borrans near you, supposed to be coming home today but the bus couldn't get out of Newcastle. What are the roads like up there? There is talk of them coming back tomorrow but I think that seems unlikely if this continues over night.

The main roads are ok including A591 though it was blocked first thing, minor roads not so good. High Borrans is preety remote up a single lane track, so unless snowlplough or farmer clears it, might be a struggle especially if we have further snow showers overnight - the main hazard now is ice, roads are going to become ice rinks..

Now for the real dilemma....is it cruel to order a Dominos and expect them to deliver?  Apparently my local one is still open for business lol

Darlo residents wheelie bins not emptied today and maybe tomorrow + Friday won't be emptied until your next collection day in 2 weeks all additional waste in extra bags will be collected

Yeah, I was lucky to have a 2-hour streamer this morning, which means we now have 8" lying... but I agree, I can't see much more tonight.
