Bleaching again in strong winds but nice thick flakes depositing yet more snow.  To be fair I lived in Willington Quay (North Tyneside) in 2010 and this is comparable for intensity of showers and depth.  2010 lasted a bit longer though so may have the edge but either way a memorable event this year.

Backbuilding on the shower currently moving over me and intensifying.  Already very dark outside with pouring snow and really strong winds.

Pleasing to note winds backing more easterly again, which should hopefully enable them to spread further south into Cumbria as this morning. We've managed about 4 inches, but its been dry for a good 6 hours or so, however, the sun has not melted much of the snow, only on exposed surfaces, its going to be very cold and very icy tonight, if we see more heavy snow showers overnight, then a repeat performance of this morning looks most probable - meaning another snow day for some.

If that red blob keeps up until it gets here I'll try and get a video as that has some heavy PPN falling.

From memory this exceeds 2010 in terms of snow depth in amble.

How much you got?  I thought you would have had 18" up in Amble in 2010

I'm hoping its getting worse by the time I get back from Ripon later, a boring day of looking  bright blue skys and melting snow.

Just had a very heavy snow shower here (lasted about 10 mins but settled very easily as it's so cold, -3c).  Plenty more snow to come by the looks of things.  How things have changed down here n the space of 45 mins!

My 9 year old daughter and her class are stuck up at High Borrans near you, supposed to be coming home today but the bus couldn't get out of Newcastle. What are the roads like up there? There is talk of them coming back tomorrow but I think that seems unlikely if this continues over night.
