Just drove to work from Westmoor to Byker and the roads are atrocious, even the main roads are very icy with heavy snow falling and snow blowing from fields and side streets, it got worse the closer it got to work, it will be chaos later at rush hour - take care

Proper flakes? Sorry to bang on but it's literally just graupel and has been all night.

There are proper flakes here during the short light showers.  No graupel at all.  I doubt you could get big flakes as the temp is so low and the wind blows them into small flakes.

Ha! Just had a text from the kids' school saying school will be open today!

That is crazy! Not a chance I'm tackling the A68 in this and my car is a 4 x 4.

Power flickering a couple of times here in amble, hope it doesnt go off. Wind and snow have been horrendous through the night, drifting pretty badly in places....and plenty more to come.

Gutted I missed the thunder but delighted to wake up to loads of snow. Hubby is off work and the little ones nursery is only a sleigh ride away if its open! Stay safe and enjoy everyone ⛄

Might be right but when I ran the radar back I thought they might be at a different angle.

Both my children's schools are shut. There was no chance anyway of getting them their. Quite bad here to be fair.

The Sunderland council website is poor when trying to find out if schools are are closed, I eventually found via

https://www.sun-fm.com/schools/school-closures/ if anyone needs an update - I'm surprised that many more are still reported as open, noticed GoNortheast buses have cancelled services too - not much snow fell over Sunderland, (well not where I'm situated ) over night
