Conditions in Consett now are pretty horrific, my partner just came down the road sideways. Even though the gritters have been out all day, the roads are sheet ice with snow blowing all over. Radar looks full too :)

And it starts folks.  The North Sea has come alive and if you look most of the region looks to be hit with heavy snow showers it's just a case of wait your turn in reality.  Here's to a sleepless night!

Was caught in that squall that hit Newcastle. Very heavy, dusted areas that had melted within minutes. Everything frozen over outside with icicles forming. Temperature probably won't rise above freezing for a fairly long period now. Hopefully convection ramps up.

Have you even checked the radar?  Boro / Stockton look like having some showers very soon!

Middlesbrough/Stockton areas will probably have a lot of the heavier showers later on tonight into tomorrow as well

To me and I am no expert the showers seem to be dieing further in land you go then intensifying again.

Everyone will see something before Thursday. Yes it looks like Durham north will do better than some areas south but that could and probably will change. It wouldn't take much for a subtle change in wind direction and you in Stockton and Teesside to be the better placed. Just try to relax. Even if you don't see much this period is amazing for us and the time of year

Some beefy showers about to make landfall and Boro etc look to also be in the firing line

Southern parts of the region look favoured currently looking at the showers out there.

Looks to me like all the region will get a fair share

Quite heavy again here now and blowing about noticeably more.

The roads are bad around the Stanley/Consett/Burnopfield areas at the moment.

looking at the current radar you'd have to be pretty unlucky to miss a decent covering any where in the region tonight!

I'm currently just on the southern fringe of a pretty big shower and its just started snowing here:)
