We've got convection picking up off the coast of Aberdeen. The NMM had this modelled as being inland now so maybe a few hours ahead of itself.

Yes been watching and they're definitely pepping up, also activity just off sw coast of Norway, can't workout what it's doing though I presume that's the really cold air starting to move towards us.

And falling as snow over the sea so should be no issue of whether its marginal for the costal areas tonight. Living right on the coast we've had wet snow from much higher uppers and from a northerly so not worried in the slightest at the moment.

Well my family have all just laughed at me for suggesting up to 20cm come Thursday. They all state their iPhones say light snow and apparently that’s just flurries and it won’t happen. We shall see !

Those bloody iPhones know everything

I'd be surprised if the majority don't exceed that.

If these charts and possibilities don't get you excited you need a different hobby. The potential is huge and this coming week may not be repeated for a very long time.

If you aren't quite sure what the north sea snow machine can produce you are either new to this or haven't been paying attention.

Maybe!

Not new, member for a long time. Just 100 times bitten twice shy!

Yes seems to be related to the -10c 850's moving over. I think it was modelled as a front on the FAX a few days ago.

Temp down to 2.3 in Jarrow, dewpoint -2.4. That's from a high of 7.5 and its definitely feeling a lot colder now. Think this is the only time this winter I've felt anything close to confidence for us to get snow

Hey all ,

As mentioned the other day I travel on Wednesday morning at about 3am from Thornaby to Newcastle airport then fly at 7am to Alicante.

whats the latest on the forecast front should I be okay? I know it’s showers forecast I’m just wondering what anybody who’s more knowledgeable update and advice is now we’re getting closer to the date? I’m thinking of setting off at 2:30 am instead to the airport to be extra safe?

Hard to call it with the nature of convective showers, although travelling that length of the North East you're bound to run in to something. Best to check Tuesday evening.

12z FAX chart also has the front further north with an additional trough in behind, which explains the 'fuller' look we saw earlier.

How much snow could this feature bring to the North East?

Tuesday's feature has pulled north on the 12z euro4, we're still in the game for a direct hit.

Hope it ends up a bit further north still. All the major fun still looks to be well to our south on the 12z.

GFS is going for 5mm/hr rainfall rate for those who take the direct hit, which could be as much as 10-15cm per hour for 3 or so hours.

To my untrained eye it looks better for most of England, but not for us - low gets nowhere near us while everyone else gets a blizzard. No real convection either.

But short term pain equals long term gain. Hopefully we will have enough from tomorrow until Thursday anyway!
