My lamp post is the same as that..lights up the whole house ? watching won’t last for long as they turn it off at 1.00am...what is the betting the snow starts at 1.01am..

It is still very much hit and miss for the inland areas of our region, plus the coastal areas might suffer slightly from the warmth of the sea. That is probably why places like Dover, Deal etc are not within the MetOffice warning areas.

Again, I don't see any issue with the coastal areas. The dew points along the coast at sea level from Folkestone to Deal are currently around -3c to -5c and the "proper" cold associated with the lower dew points haven't even arrived yet.

If anything the sea temps should aid convection..

Evening all

I’m booked on a fishing trip launching from Dungeness on Sunday.

Really hope the wind gets up and it’s cancelled because the thought of standing on a rocking boat in freezing temps is not my idea of fun!

Come on easterly wind, blow and bring snow, I don’t wanna go (fishing)!

I don’t think it’ll be powder nearer the coast. It certainly wasn’t in 87 or 91. Though drier than our usual snow I’ve seen true powder. I could clear my driveway in cana by blowing it away when it was true powder.

The snow in '91 was excellent for snow fights. I had a technique where I'd make snowcastles and line them up behind my dad's car ready to deploy.  I have video footage of this that I must get converted so I can embarrass the now man I annihilated with my snow fighting methods by tagging him in it on facebook.

also im interested what convection Kent can sustain in the deep cold SE winds-

once the track gets less than 40-50 Miles it will potentially dry up unless theres any troughs !

This is the problem. I have spent too many sleepless nights watching ppn fizzle out just as it reaches me, but this cold snap should, at some point, provide the perfect ingredients for a good streamer, just where is is directed is yet to be seen.

This is where I’m thinking it won’t dry up. Take today for example. Low uppers, easterly flow, but cloud building as a result.

Now, let’s look at next week. -14 uppers, massive differential. I’m thinking larger areas of precipitation moving more generally across the south...

The only worry is, i remember trying to build snowmen and snowballs in 87 and you just couldn't because of the dry powderiness.:cold::wallbash:

I’ve not checked the 18z output from the GFS or ICON, but I’m guessing nothing has changed too much as the MOD thread hasn’t imploded ?

The main thing is the showers may start to dry up as the upper cold pool moves to our west some point on Thursday. Winds shift more ESE which may allow a short stream but a fair chance the frontal shield will start to reduce the instability.

That was amazing snow for snowballs, remember that winter fondly.

cannot believe that's showing rain !!! It could only be snow falling from the sky in that set-up

That’s good! ICON is mocked as a lesser model, but it’s been performing well recently so can’t be discounted

My art teacher was really cool too. Sadly in Poole i dont remember having snow when doing O level Art. Wasnt it GCSE in 87? Yep I am old enough to know when O levels ended....
