cannot believe that's showing rain !!! It could only be snow falling from the sky in that set-up

Ignore it would be rain. This is why Met Office are warning of possible places being cut off a lot of snow could fall from above.

It is still very much hit and miss for the inland areas of our region, plus the coastal areas might suffer slightly from the warmth of the sea. That is probably why places like Dover, Deal etc are not within the MetOffice warning areas.

Oh good, Thanet to miss out again ?

perfect . . . that would give me 130 miles of southern North Sea for the easterly to whip up into a frenzy of snow clouds . . .

Evening all, back from work!

Any update on snow potential for those of us a bit further west/north in the region? :santa-emoji:

Not expecting much from a convective perspective unless the wind edges a little south of east to bring the Thames streamer north of the river

So let's say here in Kent/Essex we get snow, say 5-10cm Mon/Tues.  We should have roughly 850 temps of about -12.  What will that translate as at 2m temps overnight.  I understand that day temps will probably not go abaove freezing Tue/Wed/Thu but what about overnight?  Are we look at -10 possibly here over any "snowfields"??

Hmmm, any prospect of that wind shifting much?

I suppose with the convective nature there's always the chance we could get lucky and see snow pop up for those of us not in the SE quadrant.

That's quite a call there. I think you might be an hour or two early, but let's see...

Maybe at any point we get slacker winds, but as far as i see they aren't set to drop, so probably not.

My art teacher was really cool too. Sadly in Poole i dont remember having snow when doing O level Art. Wasnt it GCSE in 87? Yep I am old enough to know when O levels ended....

It was in '88 that they started. I was the 'guinea pig' year where no-one had a clue what was going on and the syllabus changed monthly. It was a shambles! :D

I don’t think that’s rain, just an illustration of the precipitation

Latest 18z GFS currently turning it more to a SE’ly flow from Wednesday - bound to change but slightly less favourable for streamers should it continue in the veign of making it more SE’ly

The only worry is, i remember trying to build snowmen and snowballs in 87 and you just couldn't because of the dry powderiness.:cold::wallbash:

Yes this could be the case this time too I'm afraid, theres always some sort of negative that you can find in a big positive I guess.

87 was when British rail coined the infamous phrase, "the wrong kind of snow", because it was in fact very powdery and blew into places where it had never gone before.:D

This train was buried somewhere in Kent.

Mother of all blizzards about to commence on the Friday pub run!

we don't need that system to move too far north otherwise it could end up more wet than white . . . .

High risk, high reward. Just look at the snow potential...

All part of the risk. If we just manage to keep the mild sector in the English Channel, we will be absolutely buried from that. No two ways about it!
