The Earths magnetic field is also weakening

https://www.livescience.com/46694-magnetic-field-weakens.html

So it will be interesting to see what effect this adds to our climate in combination with everything else going on

https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/impacts/space-weather-impacts-climate

Particularly the importance of cosmic rays as I believe a weakened magnetic field results in more cosmic rays being able to pass through and there's definite science in the relation between the rays with temperatures and storm systems

However all this is rarely new science so there's still a lot of study to be done, certainly fascination just how much of our climate in short scale terms is affected by sources not of this world

Talking of Cosmic Rays, I recommend you have a read of this book if you can - The Chilling Stars by Henrik Svensmark :good:

Obviously location will dictate how you see this winter.  IMBY its been the most snowy we've had in a while.

Snow on the ground for half a day in Dec, almost a full day in Jan and we've had a few dustings this week - for this part of the region those are major snow events :) We have also had more frosts than the previous 3 winters.

To get the precipitation for the snow here we need a W somewhere in the wind direction, problem with that  are the assiciated warmer temps and marginality.  For cold up to now i'd say 8 or 9 on 10 and for snow days (not depth) i'd say 6 or 7. All relative to my location and looking at recent winters..

Bonkers how much difference a few miles can make to snow depth/settling chances.

Chance of freezing rain late tomorrow morning I would say if there is any precipitation around then.

Ideally it'll drag the Irish band north eastward over our region.
