The wind aloft must be strong. We currently have light snow under clear skies. The nearest cloud is miles away.

Showers noticeably losing strength over the Pennines now there's a south easterly gnawing away at them.  They look quite potent on the other side, but we'll be getting scraps today I think.

Yes the sourherly element is bad news for us..

Suns out..think shower activity has peaked for our locale.

Key point is what effect will convection today if at all? We are at the end of February and 25 years ago today we had snow showers developing inland in a northerly flow. Will they generate in this flow?

Light snow is falling in Piccadilly with the sun out as well.

The breeze blows the snow from the rooftop of the building opposite my flat. I have never seen this before in the city centre. Proper powder snow.

Well if they don’t generate in these lapse rates then they will never generate. A bit of CAPE around by lunchtime as well.

Very quiet here, not a cloud in the sky, bitterly cold and not a breath of wind considering it should be a biting easterly very strange.

I agree. West of the M6, south of Preston I think will struggle today, though there is more cloud now

BBC forecast still looked good for Fri but doesn't seem to tie in with the models I've seen this morning. Hopeful of snow showers in the south of the region this afternoon but really hoping the snow makes it here on Friday for our next chance of lying snow, for me it's only a small chance of that happening though.
